Hi Chris,
It sounds like your computer lost the search field in the upgrade to Catalina
as well. the only way to fix this is to use the Customize toolbar item under
the View menu. the problem is that this dialog/window does not work with VO
dragging in any way shape or form. I have reported
Well, I start by typing control-option F while in a message list. You should
then be able to start typing, once you have a couple of letters in then you
should be able to use downarrow to find a list of completions.

Hi Tim,
I go into the toolbar, move to the far right,
and vo says “search more items pop-up button”
Then I hit VO + space and it says “menu”.
Basically, I can’t find any text area to enter the search criteria.

Hi,
Don't know if its working if the search field isn’t at the Toolbar, but to
search mailboxes you need to push cmd+option+F.
That's the way I do it for as long as I know.

Another possibility for people who don't have the search is to try forcing the
toolbar to use the default set.
In the customize toolbar dialog, move to the default set of toolbar items image
and bring up the context menu.

Hi Tim!

Hi,
It seems to be a flaw in either the upgrade to Catalina Mail, or I'm not sure
why it happened if you were doing a clean install. When I contacted Apple
Accessibility about it, they said that all I needed to do was go under the View
menu, down to Customize ToolBar, and drag the search item
Robert,
You have to first focus on the mailbox you want to search, either a main folder
or a sub folder. Then press command-option-F to enter the search box in the
toolbar, enter your search, and use the up/down arrow keys to choose a result.
Press enter on the result you would like to
Hi John,
This was very helpful. I see how to search in an individual mailbox but am not
finding a checkbox to search all. Can you say a bit more about where to find
the search all checkbox?
Thanks,

Hi Robert,
You'll find it in the Favorites Bar, right after the Show/hide mailbox table
button.

Thanks again for jogging my memory. :) I was getting incredibly frustrated!

Hello Kary,
If you press Cmd-Option-f you'll be in the Search box. After entering your
text, a menu will open offering you choices of where to search, such as
subject, body of message, and so on, and also showing what has already been
found. Escape will get you out of this menu.

Command Option F will take you to the search field. Type your search string
there and tab twice to the messages table. There you will find a list of all
messages in all mailboxes that contain your string. If you want to search
specific mailboxes, you can select them in the mailboxes table
Awesome. wow that was simple. How did I not notice this?
Again, thanks heaps. Ah. That makes things a hole lot easier

Hi James,
If you want a specific example of the kinds of searches you can run
(full text, subject, from field, etc.), you can read my archived reply
