I think it may be autocompleting the url.
Does anyone know how to turn this off?

Hi,
I wonder if it's auto-completing the URL. Mine does this and makes a
menu-type sound while it's doing it, though it doesn't say anything
about smart text.
Does it still do it if you type a URL you've never been to before?
If it is auto-complete I don't know how to switch it off. Presumably
I’m running the latest version of el cap.

Hi,
In system preferences/general, do you have a checkbox that says close windows
when quitting an application? If so, check that box. Its been a while since
I’ve used Lion so, I can’t recall if this option is in that exact spot.

Hi, Stacey,
Sorry about that. I'm using M L , so the options may be a bit different. Try
choosing either home page or blank window, depending on your preference.

Hi, stacey,
Try this. Go into Safari preferences with command-comma. Go to the General tab.
There is an option there that says "Safari opens with". In the popup, choose
"new window" with vO space, and that should solve the problem.
