Hi,
I am rather new to the Mac Mini and I would like to do a clean

to go about installing Mountain Lion?
Thanks,

Hi,
Yes a Clean install does start things fresh but you will have the issues of
re-inputting all serial numbers, pass-coes and such. Depending on the number
of apps and such that you have on your Mac, this may or may not be a factor.
If your SL system is running fine though, I would say that
Hello folks.
At the moment I am running Snow Leopard. I have just purchased Mountain
Lion, but have not installed it as yet. I have created a bootable flash
drive. I am very undecided on weather to go for a clean install or just
install it over Snow Leopard. Any advice from those of you who have
Well, having done both upgrading and a clean install, I can say without
reservation of any kind whatsoever, but a clean install is the best way to go.
If you do this, you'll get the nice snappy performance that you originally had
from your Mac. Just be sure to backup all your stuff before you
I'd advise a clean install, only because once your system is up and running you
will know that you are running a clean system from afresh: I personally like
clean rather than over the top because if anything is not working right
afterwards you can't say it wasn't because you installed over the
Some may disagree with me on this, but it's my opinion that any time
you install a new release of an operating system, whether the mac,
windows, or anything else, it's always best to do a clean install. Not
only does this give your system a fresh start, but it also clears out
any left over
the steps of
performing a clean install, an upgrade will suffice.

I've done only upgrades since Panther on my 4 year old iMac G5.
Upgrades work fine in most cases. Just as any time you do brain
surgery on your OS, have a backup. Also disconnect any external
drives. You don't have to, but it's a best practice.
I'll do an update on my Macbook, but a clean
Hi,
Years ago, I upgraded from Windows 95 to 98 with no problems. I figure
if that worked, upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard should be fine,
so I'm not doing a clean install.
Best,
Anna

Hello, i am ordering sl via the phone now. I wonder, is an upgrade (so not a
totally clean install) recommended? I know it is a VERY BAD IDEA on a iwndows
machine but i wonder if it is ok on a mac? I would actually like it if my
current settings could be used.
Greetings, Anouk
You could do an upgrade and that wouldn't be an issue for you as much
as perhaps others. You haven't loaded lots of stuff and so forth yet.
So, go ahead and do the upgrade, it should not pose any problems for
you.

I generally do the upgrade. Unless you're having problems with the
current system you should be fine doing the upgrade. On the Mac, user
files are kept in one place so changing out the system has less chance
of stepping on something.

certainly that's what I'm going to do, and I plan on recording mac pod

it goes, lol. this is my first time ever installing an OS on any
platform though, so I thought it should be recorded haha. can someone
