Yes you can. Just add your gift card to your iTunes account. The process is
called redeem.
So you can find the Redeem link in iTunes by using the item chooser, and type
in redeem. You might have to sign into your account first.

came out from the gift card balance before hitting the credit card.
The only difference was that I redeemed my card a few days
