I'm curious, are you hearing sound effects in other applications such as the
Messages app?
Be sure that your system sound preferences are set correctly.
Please do the following:

Hi,
you are correct as I am somebody who also has no sounds for incoming mail. I
went back in to preferences and unchecked the appropriate settings. Then I quit
out of mail and reloaded it and went back into preferences and rechecked those
checkboxes still no mail sounds.
Can anybody tell me
I am convinced that this is indeed a bug for some people. There are several
threads of :

conversation on the web devoted to this subject, and some of the users
reporting the problem appear quite experienced. An App
Apple rep told me he has heard of the problem, but it is not on the list of

when I’m in preferences? I think I have this already checked, but I’m not
hearing anything.
Thanks.

Hi, everyone. I just updated to OS 10.11.1 today. I’m still not getting any new
message sound when I receive something in Mail. I thought Apple was going to
fix this. I decided for now to just get alerts for mail in notification center
so I'll know when I get new email for now. Has anyone else

preferences also, and checked and unchecked the same box about playing other
mail sounds. I checked that box again, and no sound plays when I receive mail.
Its weird this keeps happening. This never happened when I was
