Re: Problem with Siri Schedule Command

2021-04-21 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hello,

that's a very annoying feature to me as well. And if I meant non of the Peats
in my contacts but a different person I'm not able to create this event at all
using Siri.

I've heard it should be common in the US to send an invitation to people in a
calendar event. In Germany it is not and so to me that's very annoying as well.
I don't know a way to disable this feature except to write to Apple and ask to
make it optional.

All the best
Jürgen

Yes, I have noticed that. If you are wanting to demo something, you are better
off using a. Patch cord anyway for a number of reasons.

Re: How to get Voiceover to go to a bluetooth speaker,

2021-04-21 Thread Brad Snyder
I was able to do this using my Bose speaker, but while VoiceOver speech was
routed through the Bose speaker, VoiceOver sound effects continued coming
through the iPhone’s speakers, and VoiceOver’s responsiveness was extremely
diminished, and the sound effects volume was abnormally amplified.
To me, this was not an acceptable solution. .

In VoiceOver Utility -> Sound, you can choose the audio output device to
be used by VoiceOver. This is independent of the default audio device
specified in System Preferences.

Apple's books application can read EPUB files. In addition, you could
try Thorium Reader. It's an Electron application that runs under Mac

Re: How to get Voiceover to go to a bluetooth speaker,

2021-04-21 Thread Phil Halton
I do remember encountering this problem some while back. If I recall, the
problem has to do with the Bluetooth protocol being employed by the device, and
there’s nothing that can be done about it from the accessibility standpoint.

Nope. This has no effect on changing this situation on either of my devices.
Been there, tried that.

Re: How to get Voiceover to go to a bluetooth speaker,

2021-04-21 Thread Brad Snyder
I believe this is a function of the firmware in a particular model of Bluetooth
speaker.
Beginning with iOS 13, certain brands of Bluetooth speakers began to not play
VoiceOver through the speaker while playing music or other content.
For example, I have a Bose Bluetooth speaker, that when playing music on this
speaker, VoiceOver speech continues coming from my iPhone, while on my Jawbone
Big Jambox speaker, both music and VoiceOver speech come through the speaker.
I am not aware of a way to change this behavior on either device.

Problem with Siri Schedule Command

2021-04-21 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running IOS 14.4.2 on my iPhone SE 2020.
I find the Siri Schedule command very useful for creating calendar entries.
However one very annoying feature is that if I say something like Schedule
Lunch with Pete 23 April 11 am “ Siri checks my contacts list to show me all
the Petes and asks me to choose the correct Pete and it then sends an
invitation to that Pete.
This is bad news as Pete does not have an iPhone and will be very confused by
any Email Siri sends to him.
Is there any way to stop this behaviour?
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

That said, here's my question.

If mail rules are set up on one system--say, the computer, do those
rules propagate to other Apple devices? For instance, if my wife uses
the computer to retrieve mail in the morning and the rules are
applied, then she picks up her iPad and retrieves more mail in the

dump everything into the Inbox, or do those rules set up on the

rules are global, my problem is easily solved--set up the folder
filter rules on one system and they happen everywhere. On the other
hand, if rules are not global, therefore not globally applied, I
should really set them up on the mail server. So then, which is it?
Set up filters and rules and such on one system and expect them to be
global, or set them up on the front-end mail server where they really
will be global before mail is even fetched?

Thanks in advance.

Re: About Mail Filters and Rules

2021-04-21 Thread Steve Matzura
My thoughts as well. I suppose the only way to find this out is to test
it, which I will now go and do.

That said, here's my question.

If mail rules are set up on one system--say, the computer, do those
rules propagate to other Apple devices? For instance, if my wife uses
the computer to retrieve mail in the morning and the rules are
applied, then she picks up her iPad and retrieves more mail in the
evening, does Apple Mail on the iPad act like there are no rules and
dump everything into the Inbox, or do those rules set up on the
computer get applied on the iPad? If the answer is that Mac Mail rules
are global, my problem is easily solved--set up the folder filter
rules on one system and they happen everywhere. On the other hand, if
rules are not global, therefore not globally applied, I should really
set them up on the mail server. So then, which is it? Set up filters
and rules and such on one system and expect them to be global, or set
them up on the front-end mail server where they really will be global
before mail is even fetched?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone running Big Sur on a 2013 Macbook Air?

2021-04-21 Thread Muhammad Fayed
You should :
1. Be honest to the buyer about this issue or that you’re not sure
2. If possible, upgrade its HDD to SSD from apple store. It will make the
device faster, But be care that this will increase the price and not much
difference in high workloads. It will make it feel faster in everyday use, e.g.
opening apps, load files faster. It may not make any difference in loading
webpages since it is CPU and software related.
If you need more technical details, I may add. And I hope someone here has any
experience about that different only in any Mac device. It will help explain
more accurately than me.

If you want to give it to your mother, then try to get higher performing in
everyday usage in order not to annoy her with it being slow to her. I don’t
know how this model performs, I use 2016 15” MBP with SSD.
Generally, old humans have lower patience to new things.

According to my experience with Catalina vs Big Sur, Big Sur feels faster.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mohamed E. Fayed

I simply accepted the on screen offer to upgrade once it was proferred.

Re: IRC CLient

2021-04-21 Thread Eric Oyen
Well,
It’s a client I have used for a long time. In any case, you can have the
windows separate out as individual windows or keep as tabs on one pane. It does
make it somewhat easier to keep track of things as well. Also, you can
configure with or without timestamps, or use handle or email (depending on how
the server is configured).

Also, Hex chat (and it’s previous incarnation) has been around for a
substantially long time. I was using it in OS X Lion and even in Snow leopard.

Instead of just asking me how great it is, why not get a copy and try it out?

Hello everyone,

Welcome to episode 82 of the Blind Tech Guys. Thanks as always for tuning in
and we would love it if you would share this with anyone you feel may benefit
from checking out our blind tech podcast.

On this week's episode of the pod, Nimer continues our series on web apps by
demonstrating how accessible Facebook and Twitter are on Android, iOS and
Windows and in our Did You Know section, we continue our series on phone
settings by exploring the Bluetooth settings on both Android and iOS.

To listen, head on over to the Blind Tech Guys website,
where you can easily subscribe and listen in
your favourite podcast player, or you can simply ask your smart speaker to
"play the latest episode of the Blind Tech Guys podcast".

Look out for our Apple wrap-up mid-week special which will hit within the next
twenty-four hours and we welcome Marco back from his sojourn in Western
Australia.

Warm regards,

Marco Curralejo
