A basic Mail question

2021-05-25 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I've started using Mac Mail more frequently, but I'm not finding the
keyboard shortcut to jump to the top (or bottom) of a list. For example
when in a mailbox on the list of all the messages in that mailbox, how
do I jump to the top of the list? And how to the bottom of the list?

It's a simple basic question, but I've failed to find the answer. Must
be looking in all the wrong places!

Thanks in advance,

Janina

I always forget the notifications on the Mac! I remember them on the I phone
though. I’ll have a look.

Thank you.

There should have been a Notification banner in the upper right corner of the
Mac’s screen. You can access these Notification banners using VO + N, then
using the up/down arrow keys, then pressing Enter to select and place focus on
the Notification. You will then need to open the Actions menu, using VO + CMD
+ Spacebar, where you can select the appropriate action for the Notification.

That would be logical. The Mouse Keys relates to the primary keyboard as far

2021-05-25 Thread Dave Carlson
Tim,
Yes, just confirmed your point. The laptop keyboard lost those keys for normal
typing. Drat.
Interestingly is that with my external USB-connected keyboard, those keys do
not get mapped and they continue to work as expected, even with mouse keys
enabled.
But of course that’s not the point, using an external keyboard.
Ah, well…back to the old method of a physical USB mouse connected when

Just a warning to those who decide to use this workaround, as you may find it a

Hi,

While this will turn off the trackpad, it also may have some unforeseen
consequences for you. When Mouse Keys is enabled, you have now made the 7, 8,
9, u, I, o, j, k, l and a few more keys have different functions. When Mouse
Keys is enabled, these keys work as mouse directional keys, and typing with
them is not possible. So, with Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot enter any text
that requires these keys. You would need to turn Mouse Keys off, type, then
turn it back on. In the past, there were also some issues with cmd-w and other
keyboard shortcuts, although I can’t recall them all, nor do I know if this is
still the case.

Just a warning to those who decide to use this workaround, as you may find it a
pain to constantly toggle it on/off in order to type letters with your right
hand.

Hi,

As John aptly said, it is a System dialog alert that is trying to tell you to
pay attention to it. It will continue to do this until you attend to it. Use
VO-f1-f1, the Application Chooser, to find this alert. The Window Chooser,
V(-f2-f2, does not usually reveal System alerts.

Subject: Update on turning touchpad off and on on the fly

Hi listers,
apologies if someone has already posted this.

A lister previously advised to use a connected mouse to turn off the touchpad
so I woldn’t accidentally use the pad to change focus. I’ve now found a way to
do this on the fly without the need for a mouse or external touchpad. I can now
turn the pad back on when I have finished so my sighted friends can use it as
intended.

Do the following:
Go to Apple preferences in Big Sur
click on Accessibility
Click on pointers in the table of options Click on other pointer tab Put a tick
in the enable mouse keys box Go into the mouse options pop up and tick turn off
touchpad when mouse keys enabled Click OK

Now you can toggle the touchpad on and off with 5 quick presses of the option
key on the keyboard

Cheers
Ian

You might have a system dialog that is bugging you. Try using the window
chooser and app chooser menus to find the dialog and deal with it. It’s
probably asking you permission to do something or warning you about an

Hello,
I am running Bigsur 11.4 on my 2019 iMac. The iMac makes a pinging sound about
every 30 seconds or so and has done this at least for the entire Bigsur

Has anyone any idea why the iMac does this and what I can do to stop it? I am

Many thanks forany tips.
