Re: App to make the solar eclipse accessible

2017-08-19 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Simon,

This is a very fun story about a small town in the U.S. that suddenly finds
itself in the limelight. As best i understand it, the longest duration of the
eclipse is in a small town in Illinois where many of my in-laws live, and where
my husband and I lived till this past April. Truth be told, this has been a
rough weekend. I'm sad I'm not there. The university is closed Monday, and
there are lots of parties that we would be attending if we still lived there.

2017-08-19 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Chuck:

My not quite so perfect pitch was ruined years ago from playing Bb
instruments. Actually, it was really ruined during the year I spent
playing a Sousaphone which is pitched Bb, but scored in C. Every since,
I need a reference note!

I'm with you on the Big Banger, though. The cosmologists who don't like
that implication have been falling all over themselves inventing every
more fantastic theories to avoid that conclusion, all without the
tiniest shred of evidence. Now, I ask you, who's relying on myths?

Hi,

People living anywhere proximate to the coming solar eclipse might want to look
into a special app intended to help blind and visually impaired people
experience this upcoming celestial event:

https://www.space.com/37746-solar-eclipse-experience-for-visually-impaired.html

The app, Eclipse Soundscape, may well be available via Itunes Appstore.
I haven't checked, though.

Enjoy!

I just did the thing same thing about a week it's a little confusing actually
it's not as difficult as it looks it just looks difficult actually is soon as
you double tap on the 58 changes and all you have to say is that you're doing
but you don't realize that until you do it. Hope that helps schedules

Down grading my I cloud storage.

2017-08-19 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi.

I am having to change my I Cloud storage due to some change of circumstances
and as I tried to down grade my storage, it was as if Apple would not let me do
it. At the present time I wanted to change from a 200 megabytes to a 50
megabytes and when I clicked on the option for that, it was with some
difficulty that I managed to do it at last. I don't know why it was such a
struggle to down grade my I Cloud storage. Anyone else have that problem?

Re: One mistake people make using public WiFi, USA Today

Or, better still, with an unlimited data plan from your telco you can
just skip the wifi and stay with your telco.

I've been doing this at conferences I attend. I have a lot less trouble
than my colleagues who are struggling with conference wifi and its
vagaries.

Re: App to make the solar eclipse accessible

2017-08-19 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Great points, Scott. I would add only that it was sound that tipped off
the discovery of the Big Bang. Everywhere Penzias and Wilson pointed
their radio telescopes they found the same background noise pattern,
which pointed to the same background em radiation:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_of_cosmic_microwave_background_radiation

I find this fact particularly important to convey to blind children who
should know their ears alone could just discover something really, really
important.

There's, of course, no sound in space, as we humans know sound. But the
vibrations discoverable throughout the univers can certainly be mapped.
Make good musical choices in those mappings and you would indeed get
something quite hauntingly beautiful. So, Scott, please post some links!

VoiceOver friendly way to order a list of items into descending order of importance

2017-08-19 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello Anne,
Many thanks for the tip on using the VoiceOver mouse down and mouse up hotkeys
on Mac OS to do drag and drop. That worked fine on the problem web site. I also
found that I could re-order the list on my iPhone using a 1 finger double tap
and hold and then drag. This gave no VoiceOver feedback on where I was dragging
to but with a little practice it was easy enough to judge how far to drag.
I wonder if such lists might be a problem for Windows screen reader users,
especially of the free NVDA and for Android screen reader users. However it is
up to them to complain if it is a problem!
Many thanks and best regards….

No it does not happen every day. I'm sure you can find a calendar somewhere
that will give dates of future eclipses. Someone mentioned another event coming
in 2024, don't know where.

There are also lunar eclipses where instead of the sun being blocked, the
moon is blocked.

Subject: App to make the solar eclipse accessible

Enjoy!

Re: VMware fusion and focus blue connection issue

2017-08-19 Thread Otto Hylli
Hello Andrew
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately it did not help in my case. Seems
that my problem is different from yours since I had no issues with pairing the
focus with Windows but after that Jaws simply doesn’t connect to the display
for some reason. However thanks to your message I now know that this should be
possible.

 Hello
Has anybody gotten a focus blue braille display working successfully with
Jaws via a bluetooth connection in a VMware Fusion Windows virtual
machine? I got the focus blue successfully paired with Windows 10 but Jaws
is not able to connect to it for some reason. The focus works all right
via bluetooth with VoiceOver on Mac OS and with Jaws on my Windows laptop
and desktop. Unfortunately I cannot simply use USB since the USB port on
 my focus is damaged.

I tried pairing the focus with Windows two times. For the second try I
removed the focus from the Mac OS bluetooth devices just in case though I
had voiceover off in any case. I also restarted Jaws multiple times and
also restarted Windows with no luck.
