RE: downloading Mac OS Mojave

2019-11-25 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi,

Cmd r works but give it some time to load what it needs.

But why are you trying to boot from an external drive?

You could try using start up disk under system preferences,
Or if you have sighted assistance you could try
Holding down the option key at start up and then selecting the bootable option
from your list shown on screen.

Re: Siri weirdness on HomePod

2019-11-25 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
It is weird, and I've never encountered it either. I've seen Apple music
replace individual tracks in my library with alternative versions, but only
when I tell it to just shuffle and play my music. I don't mind that so much,
and some times it's even kind of fun. But if I tell Siri to play an album that
is in my library, she ought to play that album, and not presume to decide that
I really wanted something else.

Donna

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks yes I looked at that

However you need to have Catalina installed to be able to run those commands to
download the earlier versions. And you can only download 10.14 and 10.13 from
the Catalina terminal.

RE: downloading Mac OS Mojave

2019-11-25 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Tim,

Actually I can’t remember but I’m pretty sure I did the wipe from cmd r then
eraised the primary volume.

I managed with time to get it up and working lastnight

Rather than Mojave though it’s installing Yosemite

So I’m going to follow through on this install and then see what happens./

Simon,

How did you do the erase? If you did it from the Recovery Partition, then the
existing recovery system should be present, whereas if you did it from an
external thing such as an installer drive or target mode, then you have totally
wiped everything and cmd-r will not work. You would need to use cmd-shift-r to
access the Internet Recovery system. The problem with the Internet Recovery
system is that you need to be connected to WiFi, which I've found to be a
problem for us VO folks at this point. If you can get sighted assistance to
connect to WiFi, then you can use Internet Recovery easily after that. I'm
thinking that the full erase disconnected you from WiFi and that is why you're
not progressing to the Language Chooser or MacOS Utilities.

Hi,

If it is trying to install Yosemite, then it is most likely using an Internet
Recovery option instead of the local recovery partition. I did state the
commands incorrectly in my last post, it should be cmd-option-r for Internet
recovery.

Re: Apple watch series three Vs. five

2019-11-25 Thread maurice.mines
Hello, I have had a series 3 and I currently have a series 5. The
differences are days if you have a lot of outs I wouldn’t recommend
the series 3 because it only shows not quite 12 give space. Also if
you’re like me I am blind is well as I have a significant hearing
loss. The speaker on the five is much better. The reason why I upgraded
from series 3 to series 5 is that when my Series III began to falter
after the store and I got the device straightened out and functioning
properly we suddenly noticed that the battery has some serious
functionality issues in other words the battery drain was significant
enough that I thought that it would be better to just upgrade.

Let’s talk about that battery for a moment. For once the advertising
hype is actually correct the series 5 Billy does have a 17 hour battery.
So for me it’s a winner. In fact it is such a winter that most of the
time if I’m doing something that I know that the phone would be a
hindrance I just make certain I have my watch on. For the sake of
clarity I have the cellular model. Because I do sometimes actually get
voice calls but most of the time I use my series 5 for texting. And when
doing a test I held the watch close to my hearing aid in an extremely
noisy environment. And was still able to hear the watch. Just my
thoughts on this one. And also for the record I am totally blind. I hope
I comments here are helpful.

I don’t think Apple is selling it anymore you can still find it on Amazon or
other places but Apple isn’t selling it because the forth gen and fifth gen
pretty much have the same internals

Re: downloading Mac OS Mojave

2019-11-25 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries

Later...

2019-11-25 Thread Sarah Massengale
So, a question about that, Joseph. I’m not seeing the four on Apple’s website,
and the sales team says it’s no longer available. Is it still available in
stores? I ask because I do want to buy direct from Apple, as I’ll be using a
gift card to do it.

Thanks,
Sarah
