Headings in Mac pages or Word

2020-04-12 Thread Muhammad Babar Shahzad
Hello all,
I am a new user of MacBook pro. I am a student and I have to format the
assignments using headings.
How can i enable voiceover to read and assign the headings in either word or
pages? I also have to use numbers or excel so, may i request for any tutorials
about these programs?
Any recommendation for a free download manager? The last question is about the
safari report to be busy sometimes and I don’t think it has anything to do with
the slow internet. The connection seems to be ok.
Thanks,
Muhammad.

Re: Catalina Clean Install

2020-04-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you do this your computer will be in essentially the same sate as it was
before you did the clean install. Why are you looking to do a clean install?
There might be less drastic actions you can take.
Jonathan

One thing I discovered recently after my son wiped out his disk drive, is that
time machine backups of Catalina include a recovery partition with a Catalina
installer. You might find this very useful.

Re: FaceBook on safari

2020-04-12 Thread Patrick Ford
Hi, the best info I could find is that on the mac there is no basic , but on
IOS you can find it after signing in on safari on the mobile fb site. You can
go to the account and then the general account area and choose basic instead of
I think it is called normal or some such word.

Re: Clean install of Catalina OS X refresher

2020-04-12 Thread Phil Halton
Thanks Brad, I’m still a little confused about the reformatting process. I see
where it says select delete APS up volume from the edit menu, and then I’m
supposed to delete the Mac HD data? I’m really not clear on the steps that you
take here could you maybe clarify I can find the Mac HD and Mac HD dadoes
volumes in the internal drive section but what do I do? Do I highlight Mac HD
first and then select the delete a PSF from the edit menu? Please give me a
step-by-step if you would thanks

Re: Sharing books to VOiceDream.

2020-04-12 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi David,
Now I’m going to blame my age for this as I think my confusion here was that I
purchased IOS 11 without the eye and saved it to both voice dream reader and
the books app on my phone. I know that was a couple of years ago now so that is
wy I’m blaming my age.
So I apologise if I gave the impression that it used to be possible.
Now I better go feed the cat before she jumps on to my keyboard and tells you
what she thinks.

Re: Sharing books to VOiceDream.

2020-04-12 Thread David Chittenden
Sorry to say that it has never been possible to share a commercial copyrighted
book from Apple's book app to any other app or device. It might be possible
when one uses certain 3rd party solutions to break the copyright protections,
but this would be illegal.

Re: Clean install of Catalina OS X refresher

2020-04-12 Thread Brad Snyder
Hi Phil,

I’ve done a clean install of macOS Catalina several times recently, and had no
issues with VoiceOver during the process. Since you say Catalina is already
running on your Mac, you should be able to do a straight forward install from
the recovery partition.

Below is a link to an Apple Insider article that details the process and steps
you will need to follow:
https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/02/20/how-to-factory-reset-a-macbook-pro-and-when-to-do-it

BTW - Apple Insider articles display ads, so I recommend switching to Reader
View for a better experience when reading the article.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this, probably well before Sierra sometime,

this Tell me if the following bullet points are correct for doing a clean
install?

* I won’t be using a flash drive, but will be doing this from a wired internet
connection in the recovery panel.
* save everything in the cloud, either dropbox or iCloud or both.
3 in recovery panel, disk utility, find and erase the os partition, MacHD or
something like that, being careful not to erase the smaller recovery partition
or anything more than the OS partition itself.
* what are the settings I need to reformat? Like Mac extended journaling. I
thought there was a new set of parameters to select since apple went to a new
file system?
* When the erase and reformat is done, exit disk utility and choose “reinstall”
from the recovery menu.
* follow the bouncing ball from here on out throughout the reinstall.
* reinstall apps etc
End of checklist
I’ve heard that VoiceOver goes silent in certain phases of the process, like at
logon screens etc. Is there a specific point to watch out for? Will “BeMyEyes”
be useful in these silent screen cases?

2020-04-12 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

That should not matter as they are still both on the same network. Not sure
why your AirPlay button is not showing. Mine is just to the VO-left of the
Lyrics button and three VO-rights past the LCD panel. Make sure that AirPlay
is enabled on your Apple TV and, this shouldn't matter, but you can go into
System Preferences on the Mac, to Sharing, select Media Sharing from the table
and make sure that Home Sharing is enabled on the Mac.

It does work fine for me. I do have one of my Macs on ethernet with the ATV on
WiFi, but not the other way around like you.

Any idea why this might be? Apple TV definitely works. But in case it matters,
the Apple TV is directly connected via ethernet, while my Mac is on wifi. Not
sure if that has anything to do with it.

Re: Apple Magic Trackpad 2

2020-04-12 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

You can simply double-tap on the Trackpad to perform the default action for the
given item. That is, a double-tap will open, or check a checkbox etc.
Alternatively as long as cursors are following each other, so that the mouse is
where the VO cursor is, you can double-click on the Trackpad to open any item
that has focus.

Clean install of Catalina OS X refresher

2020-04-12 Thread Phil Halton

I’m planning to do a clean install of OS X. I am currently running catalina on
a MacBook Air 2013.
It’s been a while since I’ve done this, probably well before Sierra sometime,
so I’d like a little refresher. Would someone knowledgable and experienced with
this Tell me if the following bullet points are correct for doing a clean

* reinstall apps etc
End of checklist
I’ve heard that VoiceOver goes silent in certain phases of the process, like at
logon screens etc. Is there a specific point to watch out for? Will “BeMyEyes”
be useful in these silent screen cases?

Well, one thing i like about the chromebook is that they are so cheap, if they
dont work, you toss it , and well buy a new one. If you are into that, of
course. A laptop for $100 with Screenreader inbuild, yes me likes, me likes
lots. I use a Acer for all of my medical work, and so far it is taking all i am
tossing at it. Needless too say i am impressed. There are a couple of things

Re: Bug in new version of Numbers on OS X

2020-04-12 Thread Phil Halton
I set up a test table in a new instance of numbers to test this out, and I find
that with the months of the year label across the top row of the table
voiceover will only recognize out to about August and then it just doesn’t see
any labels. Also, voiceover is really acting strangely, crashing and restarting
when I use the command arrow keys for navigation and also getting stuck in the
cell a1 first entering the table. It’s just acting really weird since I
upgraded and also incidentally some system updates went in as well. I wonder,
is there anyway to reset numbers without doing a clean install of the OS? Is
there a .pList file somewhere that if deleted would cause numbers to reset?

Re: Operating system accessibility (was RE: Ios 13.4.1)

2020-04-12 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
There is basic braille support in that what chrome speaks is presented on the
braille display. Also I found the math support lacking last time I reviewed. I
believe that chromevox did use abbreviations for control types but Iremember
bing disappointed with either web alerts or item describtions.
That being said, I find braille on Macs to frustating also with how locked the
braille cursor is with the vo cursor.

Re: Apple Magic Trackpad 2

2020-04-12 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I'm sure it's useful for desktops (e.g., Mac Mini, iMac, etc.), enabling the
use of trackpad commander in VoiceOver.

One advantage is if you find the built in trackpad gets in the way,

Re: Bug in new version of Numbers on OS X

2020-04-12 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Phil,

I haven’t much in the way of spreadsheets on my computer so I asked my husband
to test the latest Numbers on his, which is a recent MacBook Pro running
Catalina. For him, VoiceOver will read column headers for the first 22 columns,
and row headers for the first 44 rows. This is true both for navigating using
the VO keys, and VO-Shift-t.

Cheers,

Anne
