Re: podcasts on Mac

2021-02-14 Thread Brad Snyder
I never listen to podcast on a Mac.
I prefer using Overcast on my iPhone. It is much simpler.

Re: IOS 14.4 a serious piece of garbage?

2021-02-14 Thread Eric Oyen
Well,
I have a gripe with the entire 14.x series of iOS releases. Ever since going to
14, my phone has done the strange thing when holding down the home button: it
double chimes upward indicating ready to accept voice input only to immediately
double chime downward indicating operation canceled. I have had to reset my
phone 4 times already and the problem comes back in less than a week. So,
basically, I can’t add to my electronic calendar by that method, nor can I
request phone calls, play my music or even open apps. What does it take to have
a properly working phone?

Re: podcasts on Mac

2021-02-14 Thread Brad Snyder
If you don’t have the Podcast app on your dock, look for it in your
applications folder, CMD + Shift + A.
Once you have located the Podcast app in your Applications folder, you can add
it to your dock using CTRL + CMD + Shift + T.

Re: IOS 14.4 a serious piece of garbage?

2021-02-14 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Oh, God! so here's what happened this morning.

I said "Siri, play Album x." Siri said, "I can't find Album X on Apple Music."
So I said, "Siri, play album X from my library." Siri said, "I can't find Album
X on Apple music." So I said, "Siri, play Artist from my library." Siri
immediately played a song from the album I'd been trying to play. So I said,"
Siri, play this album." Siri immediately switched to a different album. So, I
thought, OK, I'll just air-play it from my phone. I started the album, and went
into the control center to select the speakers where I wanted the music to
play. But the Playback Destination button in the Control center seems only to
be there for decoration. Tapping it brought up the list of speakers, but I was
not able to select and get music to play on anything other than my phone. I was
finally able to get the album to play on one of my HomePodes by holding my
phone up to it and transferring, but we all know that that sometimes works, and
sometimes doesn't. So this action, which should have been able to be
implemented with one voice command, ended up taking about fifteen minutes, and
it still wasn't playin on all the speakers where I wanted it to play.

On a more general level, our music system is a combination of HomePods and
Sonos speakers. In IOS 13, if I had the speakers grouped, and told Siri to
adjust the volume, the volume was adjusted for the whole group. Now, it is only
adjusted on the HomePod. If I want to adjust the volume on the Sonos speakers,
I either have to open the Sonos app and do it there, or manually walk over and
adjust it. There's just no excuse for that.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: IOS 14.4 a serious piece of garbage?

2021-02-14 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Well, I guess at least I'm not the only one. But seriously, I can't imagine
what Apple was thinking to release a version with so many problems. I get that
the braille display issues only involve a tiny group of people so will not take
priority. But the issues with music on the HomePod are just bloody ridiculous.

Can't log in to my Ordinary Mac partition.

2021-02-14 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
There’s an issue when I try to log in to my Mac partition where I have the non
beta version.
When I type my password I get an error telling me that the login was
unsuccessful due to an error.
The only other user I have is a guest user.
My Beta version of Big Sur works like it should.

Re: Toggling dark mode

2021-02-14 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
If you don't want to use one of VoiceOvers commanders for your automation, then
you will need to save (or possibly recreate your workflow ) to be aQuickAction.
In Automators new dialog it describes Quick Actions as:text Quick Actions are
workflows that may be added to Finder, Touch Bar, and the Services menu.

Once a quick Action is listed as a service, then you can go into System
Preferences Keyboard open the shortcuts area and find the services in the first
table and a list of all the services in the second table. Any of these services
can be assigned a shortcut key. These are the same services that are listed in
the Application Name (Finder, Mail., TextEdit) menu just above the "hide" menu
item.
Do be a little careful to verify the entry you put in this list as you can also
assign unmodified single letter to shortcuts here.

Have fun!

Jonathan Cohn
