Setting Default Install Location

2022-02-08 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Dear All:

I've noticed my Mac Mini has begun defaulting to using my external
Thunderbolt storage drive whenever I install something new. This is most
definitely not my preference.

Anyone able to help me reset to more standard locations? I'd most
grateful.

Best,

Janina

I am able to read by word just fine, however, Voiceover is not reading by

Voiceover still reads by word, not by character.

Do I have to add Hindi keyboard for reading by character?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi,

It’s in System Preferences, Languages & Region. You should have a button in
this pane that says “Add a preferred language”. A list of supported languages
will come up in a table. Hinki is one of them. As my Mac read through them,
it would read them out in their native tongue, then say Russian, or Hungarian,
or Hindi etc. Hindi is one of the languages within this table. It does not
appear to be alphabetical so you’ll likely have to go down a ways to find Hindi.

HTH.

User Authentication Required

2022-02-08 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

I asked this question before and I am asking it again because this time I
have some more information about it.

This problem started when I upgraded to Montray.

In Catlina days, when computer went to sleep, I used to press arrows keys
repeatedly with my finger on the fingerprint button, and the computer used
to awake with voiceover on.

Since I upgraded to Montray, when the computer goes to sleep, it does not
wake up with repeated pressing of arrow keys with my finger on power-button.
When I enter password, Voiceover comes up but does not work. When I press
VO-F1, Voiceover says:

'User Authentication Required'. Voiceover also says nothing under Voiceover.

When I try to restart the computer, voiceover says:

'Authentication Is not responding'. When I wait for a couple of minutes, the
computer restarts and everything remains fine until the computer remains
idle for sometime and goes to sleep. Then I have to repeat the drill.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone else noticed that since the last update, their Homepods are a hot mess?

2022-02-08 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Huh! Weird. Nope, no joy here. I was finally able to get Siri to play the
album I want by telling her to play artist, keep saying next track till she
played one from the album I wanted, and then say Play Album. But it just
shouldn’t be that hard.
Cheers,
Donna

Reading Hindi By Character?

2022-02-08 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

I have just added Hindi as one of my preferred languages and Voiceover is
reading hindi just fine.

I am able to read by word just fine, however, Voiceover is not reading by
character. When I bring my roater on character and read with left/right
arrows, Voiceover still reads by word, not by character.

Do I have to add Hindi keyboard for reading by character?

Thanks!

Thanks!

RE: Adding a Language?

2022-02-08 Thread Fazil M.
Thank you very much, Tim, I have successfully added Hindi and Voiceover is
reading Hindi now!

Can I see whether we have more voices for Hindi? If yes, where can I see that,
please?

Thanks again!

Thanks!

HTH.

Hi, Group.

How can I add a language.

Sometimes ago, I tried to add Hindi in Voiceover Utility, Speech. I think I did
not do everything right because my Mac was not reading Hindi webpages.

Yesterday, I took my Mac to Genius-bar. I think he was an Italian guy. I asked
him to add Hindi in my Mac. He said a language is added here, I can see its
symbol but I don’t know its name.

I could not find Hindi in the language list either.

How can a blind person add a language if he/she doesn’t find its name?

Thanks!

All good with Siri up here in Canada. I asked four different times to play
albums.

1. Hey Siri, play Taproot Manuscript by Neil Diamond.
2. Hey Siri, play Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.
3. Hey Siri, play the album 1X by Three Days Grace
4. Hey Siri, play Divide by Ed Sheeran.

The file command analyzes the file and attempts to identify what it is

be automatic.

I would suggest contacting your e-mail provider or searching for any
issues people have been experiencing with Apple Mail (or whatever you're

Deleted e-mails kept coming back. Why?

2022-02-08 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I have a brand new M1 MacBook Pro running OS 12.1. I’m deleting old e-mails
from my Gmail account in Mac Mail and finding that mails I know I deleted
suddenly reappear. I have a little vision and I know these things are coming
back because I can see the screen blip quickly. After that, if I arrow up
through mails, I will hear subject lines of e-mails I know I deleted with dates
to confirm. I delete the e-mails again and keep going through my e-mail and
then find that the e-mails have returned yet again. Has anyone experience
anything like this?

For the record, I delete e-mails by holding down command and option and
depressing either the delete key in the Sixpack, (bottom left,) or the other
backspace key immediately below the function keys, again while holding command
and option so that I am in the same place in the list of e-mails. Hope this is
clear.

Anyway, thinking of calling either Accessibilitty or Apple Care to see if they
know anything. But thought I’d ask you guys first.

or Hindi etc. Hindi is one of the languages within this table. It does not
appear to be alphabetical so you’ll likely have to go down a ways to find Hindi.

HTH.

Adding a Language?

2022-02-08 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

How can I add a language.

Sometimes ago, I tried to add Hindi in Voiceover Utility, Speech. I think I
did not do everything right because my Mac was not reading Hindi webpages.

Yesterday, I took my Mac to Genius-bar. I think he was an Italian guy. I
asked him to add Hindi in my Mac. He said a language is added here, I can
see its symbol but I don't know its name.

I could not find Hindi in the language list either.

How can a blind person add a language if he/she doesn't find its name?

Thanks!

Hey, Tim,

I’ll be curious to hear what you find out. I have converted albums with
unusual or foreign language names to playlist, and I agree that does make it
easier to play them

 Hi all,

So, I just spent a half hour trying to get an album to play on my Homepod
and various Sonos speakers. Eventually, I just gave up and played it on
the Sonos speakers using the Sonos app. And since the last update, this
has been happening at least once a day. I regularly get one of two error
messages, either the Homepod can’t find the requested content in my Apple
Music library, or that it can’t find the speaker. It doesn’t seem to
matter whether I’m using Siri on the Homepod, or trying to play music from
either my phone or iPad. And yes, I have unplugged and reconnected the
HomePod, and also done a reset. WT*! If this doesn’t get fixed soon, my
Homepods and minis are going in the garbage, and I’ll never buy another
 Apple speaker again.

Would love to know if others are experiencing this, and/or if anyone’s
 found a solution.
 Cheers,
 Donna

What happens if you just use Siri on the phone and not try to go to the HomePod
does it play it then? In other words just using your phone and asking Siri to
play the album does it play the album in question? I would troubleshoot there
first because if I can play it on the iPhone then yes definitely it’s a HomePod

Re: Has anyone else notied that since the last update, their Homepods are a hot mess?

2022-02-08 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I haven’t experienced this on my HomePods. Although, I seldom ask Siri to play
an album per se. I usually ask her to play a specific playlist from my
library, or to play music that I like. I will check on this though when I get
home.

PS. If you do decide to dispose of your HomePods, let me know and I’ll take
the full-sized ones off your hands :).

Later…

Hi Anders,

When they work, they are awesome. And mine were working fine until this last
update. I do think Apple broke something in a big way. As much as I like the
HomePod and the mini, at the point that you spend a half hour just trying to
play an album and aren’t even successful in the end, they aren’t worth it.
Cheers,
Donna

Has anyone else notied that since the last update, their Homepods are a hot mess?

2022-02-08 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

So, I just spent a half hour trying to get an album to play on my Homepod and
various Sonos speakers. Eventually, I just gave up and played it on the Sonos
speakers using the Sonos app. And since the last update, this has been
happening at least once a day. I regularly get one of two error messages,
either the Homepod can’t find the requested content in my Apple Music library,
or that it can’t find the speaker. It doesn’t seem to matter whether I’m using
Siri on the Homepod, or trying to play music from either my phone or iPad. And
yes, I have unplugged and reconnected the HomePod, and also done a reset. WT*!
If this doesn’t get fixed soon, my Homepods and minis are going in the
garbage, and I’ll never buy another Apple speaker again.

Would love to know if others are experiencing this, and/or if anyone’s found a
solution.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Mathtype and Microsoft Word

2022-02-08 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
If you can export it to HTML with MathML included, then it will be read
correctly in a browser. So far as I know, that’s the only solution, but it
should be fine if all you need is to read the document.

Hello All.
Is there anyway to make VO read Mathtype expressions correctly?
When I use word it only tells me:
Field

I know that the MathType is correct because the same document is read perfectly
by jaws on my windows.
Thanks.

Lucas.

All text files that cannot be read

2022-02-08 Thread Steve Z.
Hi,
I have found in one of my hard drives some old text files that cannot be read.
I open them in pages and try to find Greek or unicode fonts, but I couldn’t.
Can anyone help me on this?
Thank you
