Same here. It does not help.
I do not think the issue is in VoiceOver. Voiceover never says “Annotation
Grammatical Error”. It may say “Misspelled”.
I also changed that setting to “Play tone”. I think it would be better for me
while writing down notes on Apple notes.

I use Fastmail. They have three paid plans depending on how much you want to
administrate, store, micro manage, etc. Plans can be very simple or very
professional depending on your needs. And if you decide you want a domain you
can also have that and purchase it right from www.fastmail.com
I would suggest purchasing a domain name, then associating it with an e-mail
provider. You can change provider without ever changing your e-mail address.
There are plenty of online tutorials to assist in doing it.
