It's not because of Apple Mail that this happens. For some reason, and in I
don't know how many years I haven't figured out why, if the email client sends
the message via iMap to delete messages, Gmail doesn't handle it correctly, and
they keep coming back. This happens every time in Gmail's "All mail" folder.
The only way to make messages die forever is to not delete them directly, but
move them to a trash folder, then empty that trash folder. This has worked for
me in both Apple Mail and Thunderbird on Windows.

Hi,

I'm not sure what's going on for you. It sounds like your settings are
correct. Since it is an iMap account, you could safely remove the account from
the Internet Accounts pane of System Prefs, quit System Prefs to ensure
everything is "killed", then go back into System Prefs, Internet Accounts and
re-add the Gmail account.

hey,
mine is set to a week for removing messages.
This is a new problem at my end, until recently it has worked very well.

Hi,

No, not necessarily. They sound like the correct locations for Gmail to work
properly. I'm assuming that you meant GMail/AllMail for the archiving of
messages. What is the setting for how long before it removes deleted messages?
Mine is set at one month for the Gmail account and Automatically for my G

Hi,

I use iMap with multiple Google accounts and I'm not seeing this. In the
Accounts pane of Mail Prefs, select your Gmail account, then select the MailBox
Behaviours tab. What is your Trash Mailbox set to and what is your Archive
Mailbox set to?

Re: anyone having problems with gmail redownloading old messages in apple mail?

2018-04-26 Thread Steve Matzura
It's not because of Apple Mail that this happens. For some reason, and
in I don't know how many years I haven't figured out why, if the email
client sends the message via iMap to delete messages, Gmail doesn't
handle it correctly, and they keep coming back. This happens every time
in Gmail's "All mail" folder. The only way to make messages die forever
is to not delete them directly, but move them to a trash folder, then
empty that trash folder. This has worked for me in both Apple Mail and
Thunderbird on Windows.
