For the SE phones you can set up ApplePay to work by double tapping the home
button. You will then ask you if you want to use the default card. If so just
touching the home button once more for fingerprint detection and then you have
a few minutes to get the phone near the NFC reader.
As far as “pointing “at the terminal reader, it’s more actually just bringing
it next to the reader. I’ve always just put my hand on the reader itself then
bring the phone over to my other hand to ensure that I’m bringing it near the
reader. That’s not a problem and it doesn’t in fear with
