All depends whether you go hdd or ssd and even on the ssd side, speeds differ a
lot depending on what you are willing to spend. Best will be to carefully look
at the specs of which ever drives you are looking at.

Re: Upgrading my Mini

2017-09-10 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
Thanks all. Based on the prices at 3rd party sites like this one, you’re
right. I don’t want to do that. Time to decide how badly I really need this
or what might do instead. What is the speed hit attaching an external drive
through the Thunderbolt port?

Larry, don’t upgrade through apple, go to local shop or do it yourself. Check
out www.crucial.com , put in the model Mac you have
and it will tell you what parts to buy. Prices are a fraction of what Apple
charges so you could buy more drive for less money.

Re: Upgrading my Mini

2017-09-09 Thread Nickus de Vos
Larry, Apple will most certainly charge you a arm and a leg for a 2 TB SSD,
easily over $500 if not closer to $1000. Here is a thought, why not simply get
a 2 TB external thunderbolt drive then leave it permanently connected? This
will be a much cheaper solution, and some external SSD drives out there is not
much larger than a credit card. Alternatively buy your own drive and get a
friend or someone to install it for you, on the mini it is so easy that you can
even ask a non-Apple Computer store to do it for you, this will be a much
cheeper route than letting Apple do it for you.
