Hi I tried what John recommended but I only got 2 contacts back. I had
34 before the update. Will give Ray's suggestion a try.

1. Sign out of iCloud on your phone.
2. turn off your phone for at least one minute.
3. Now, turn your phone back on.
4. Now, sign in to iCloud. Connect and lock.

First, check on the web or another Apple device to make sure your contacts
are still in the Cloud.
If they are then do a backup of the contacts, Macintosh's have a save
function and possibly a export function. You would need to select all
contacts and then use either the export or save as
