Re: expanding andfolders in list view

2014-05-08 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Dave,
So what's the difference between opening and expanding. I mean, if you open
something, why does one need to expand it as well? I find some folders in
Finder need expanding, and others don't. Folders deeper in the file structure
seem to need expanding, whereas ones closer to the surface don't. Do you know
why this is?
Just curious as I'm still learning so much about the Mac two years on.

Re: expanding andfolders in list view

2014-05-08 Thread David Taylor
Hi,

To answer your second question first, check all your settings in view menu and
preferences, and remember to set any folder that isn't behaving as you like to
the view you like.

To answer your first question, as I already said, when you open a folder, you
just see the contents of that folder, when you expand it, you see its contents
as well as everything you could already see, so it's personal preference.

Re: expanding andfolders in list view

2014-05-08 Thread Phil Halton
I think also that when opening a folder in list view, it becomes the
current folder and so pasting files will cause them to paste into that
folder. I thought, but may be wrong, that if you didn't open a folder, but just
expanded it, then pasting wouldn't put files into the expanded folder, but into
it's parent folder, or whatever folder was current.
you can check what folder is current by looking to the left of the toolbar.
the folder listed there is where pasted files will be placed.
I know that column browser view (command 2) causes a folder to become current
whenever it is expanded. That is, the current folder is whatever folder you
are currently viewing. But, with List view, that's not the case, the current
folder is not necessarily the one you're currently viewing. you have to make it
current by opening it with command down arrow or command O.
Hope that makes sense.
