Hello Paul,
I understand your goal.
At first glance, I can suggest 2 options:
1.
Change your Apple ID to your desired email address, assuming it has not already
been taken.
2.
And this is what I have done on many occasions, continue to use your gMail
account SMPT server while using your iCloud account's Incoming server.
In this way, assuming you are using a client such as Apple Mail, MS Outlook,
iOS Mail, you can customize the return email setting in the SMPT area and
receive all of your mail to your iCloud account.
I suggest this because I am not certain if iCloud will allow you to use a
customized, non-iCloud email address. It may be possible, but I've never done
it.
This is definitely the kind of thing that is best handled by advanced users.
There are other solutions but they go far beyond the scope of this forum.
Good Luck,
Mark

Subject: iCloud mail and Email address
Hello,
For many years I have used a mail forwarding service so that I can keep my
Email address of hopew...@hopewell.org.uk unchanged while I change my Email
provider. I currently use GMAIL as my Email provider but would prefer to use
iCloud mail. Using GMAIL all recipients of mail from me see that my Email
address is hopew...@hopewell.org.uk and so put that Email address into their
address book and so always reply to that Email address.
Can I set up iCloud mail to work like this? I have tried to do this several
times without success. I wonder if I am missing something.
Many thanks for any tips….
Paul Hopewell
