selecting a scanner?

2011-06-07 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

Do I understand correctly that any scanner with a twain driver will work on the
Mac? If that's not correct, what do I need to pay attention to when selecting
a scanner?
TIA,
Donna

Re: selecting a scanner?

2011-06-07 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Donna,

I'm not sure whether all scanners work with the Mac, but it's usually easy to
get the information before purchasing.

As for OCR on the Mac, I'm currently just using VueScan. If you set it to
multipage scanning, you can then set the number of seconds between scans so
that you don't have to keep pressing Cmd-N to launch a scan.

The quality of the OCR is pretty good and it offers several languages. I can't
remember which languages, but I'm sure the usual European languages are
included.

It also handles columns correctly, so I can scan two pages of a book at a time
and have them come out in the right order.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Anne,

thanks, just downloaded Vuescan. The setup looks to be straight-forward
enough. One question, though. Since I don't have a scanner at the moment. Do
you know if Vuescan supports duplex scanning?
Thanks,
Donna

No, VueScan doesn't correct orientation. There are commands to rotate left and
right and it stays set the way you leave it.

 TIA,
 Donna
