Re: strange message when logging into Bookshare from my Mac

2021-03-07 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Not quite sure how all the password certification programs work. My wife
recently got an e-mail from Google services with over 50 password that it
claimed were compromised. Not terribly surprising except that some of them were
accounts that still had the email my wife used before she switched primarily to
google for email. Oh, and this was not a scam, she directly launched a browser
on the Google site and opened up the review security from there.
Also, if you open up Safari preferences, and switch to the "passwords" page
there is a four column table in this panel.
The fourth column is usually blank, but sometimes, it says duplicate or unsafe
password.
The original site dealing with compromised passwords was called "Have I benn
ponned" and in this site you put in username / password with no site
information and it would tell you if the pair had shown up in any lists of
compromised web sites.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

You got that message because apple new security tells you if any
passwords have ben used with more then one account.

It really don't like when you use the same email for your apple account
with any other. Like it had a fit when it seen walmart.

Re: strange message when logging into Bookshare from my Mac

2021-03-05 Thread Muhammad Fayed
The reason behind such message is to ask you to change your password.

When there is a website with weak security, passwords may leak. If a password
has some way to match to any of your passwords, the website will ask you to
change it. Your password is mostly secure, but there is no barrier that someone
tries to login to some website using your email and tries all passwords.
I got similar warning from Google.

Preferably change your password and ignore it. If there is something more
serious, they should make a more clear warning with more actions to take.

Regards,

Mohamed E. Fayed

Re: strange message when logging into Bookshare from my Mac

2021-03-04 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I figured that was probably the case, but it sure would be nice to have better
information. I would think if book share had been hacked, they would’ve put
some thing on their site or let people know somehow. The only other option I
can see that that leaves us that my Mac is compromised, and if that’s the case
probably all my passwords have been leakd. It would be good to know what the
actual situation is. LOL
Cheers,
Donna

Sounds like a notification from the Safari Saved Passwords utility feature of
iCloud Keychain.
I don’t know where Apple gets this information from, or if it is creditable.
I suppose what action you decide to take is up to you.
