Re: Parallels desktop for Mac frustrations.

2023-11-17 Thread Ronald van Rhijn
Hi

I recently had my own difficulties with Parallels.
A few weeks ago I bought a brand new MacBook Pro 16 with M2 Pro, 32gb ram and
1tb ssd for using it with Parallels Pro 19 running Windows 11 and ArM Jaws 2023.
First of all Parallels isn’t very accessible with Voice Over (which I knew
before purchasing), but did it anyway. When all was installed and running I
shouldn’t have to worry about Parallels’ inaccessibility. Which was mostly
true. My problem with Parallels was certain keyboard keys like control and
option were giving me headaches. More than often when pressing one of these
(sometimes in combination with other keys) the focus switched to MacOS or no
focus at all. Where there wasn’t any speech either. This was true for windowd
and full screen.
We coulnd’t get this fixed in parallels settings unfortunately. For text
editing these keyboard keys are essential in Windows. Other issue was JAWS was
a tad sluggish. Perhaps the ARM version of Jaws is’nt optimal yet. The MacBook
should have been powerful enough to run everything smoothly.
I couldn’t live with it. So I returned the MacBook to Apple and got my full
money back from Parallels too.
Parallels webpage to ask for a refund I couldn’t do myself, cause the captcha
didn’t have an audio challenge.
I haven’t tried VM Fusion myself, but from what I read everywhere Parallels is
the best Apple Silicon virtual machine software. NOt for me though.
I am going to buy a much cheaper Mac and a Windows pc to use next to each
other.

Ronald

Parallels is a vm environment,

Doesn’t work well for us if you use a screen reader,
Or at least it didn’t
Virtual box or vm fusion are what you want to look at if you don’t want to go
with bootcamp.

Hi!
Yes and its not accessible.
So you have to stick with Vmware or Bootcamp or if you’re into command promt
commands you might want to try virtualbox.

RE: parallels access

2016-09-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Chris,

Yes it’s been around since I think version 6 of parallels,

It allows you to have a vm setup on your mac computer and then if your out and
about and need to access your vm on that mac computer, you can setup parallels
on your IOS device and then start the vm up running a windows session on your
IOS device.

Only problem is that getting a screan reader like jaws to work is a no go to an
absolute pig!

As I stated in an earlier message,
VM and citrix do a version also

My point was, you asked about Parallels, which is a mac based program which
runs on a mac. This is why I wrote and said it's not accessible, but to check
out Fusion. How was I to know ahead of time you didn't have a mac, and just
further for your info. No. Not everyone on here has a mac, let alone a
macbook, but that wasn't what you were asking.

You were asking about a piece of software which was designed to run on a mac.
You asked if it was accessible, I said no, then gave you an alternative. I'm
sorry if I did wrong by doing so.

I'm done trying to answer this particular thread, as I see it going absolutely
nowhere at this point that would be advantageous to the list.

I can confirm it’s accessibility is absolute crap.
Even the installation process needed sighted assistance to get things installed.

Hmm, wonder if it doesn't like the odd number of cores. Maybe try
dropping it to two. I'm assuming you're running 64-bit Windows since
you're trying to allocate 16GB RAM. Are you on the latest updates of

you aren’t kidding. once I plugged in a usb headset, it speed up to nearly
full normal when I run windows natively. I wonder why vmware can’t fix this.
I wish I could get a headphone with multiple connections at work, I need to
ware headphones, and will it is really awkward to ware 2 headphones :) oh well.
speed is so much important in this case.

Thanks.

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant: tell Fusion to treat your USB sound card just
as any other USB device. The downside of course is that now your Mac can’t
share audio output with your VM, but it’s definitely a boost for latency.

Re: parallels 10 accessibility

There's not a command line, and no. It's still not accessible.

What's wrong with VMWare Fusion, if you don't mind me asking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Second this. OSX is pretty good about not allowing one user on one
account to mangle things for another user on another account. I suspect
you'll be much happier running native on just another account that you
use for development.

Re: Parallels or Fusion for running virtualized OSX with Voiceover?

My understanding is that Parallels is not accessible with VoiceOver. YOur best
and perhaps only option is Fusion if you wish to virtualize OSX.

Thanks Mike!
I just got an extension offer from them. Seriously, I hate that I already spent

Thanks for taking the time to check the accessibility, I appreciate it.

Re: parallels?

2011-09-14 Thread Mike Arrigo
I have not looked at it, but maybe I will, though unless they have totally
rewritten it, it will not be accessible. For some reason, why I have no idea,
they chose to use nonstandard custom controls for everything instead of the
standard coco framework. If you want to try it feel free, and I may do the
same, but I don't have high hopes for it working.

My next question is regarding using the Web. Captchas-need I say more? On
the Windows side, one would remedy this problem by downloading and using
Firefox with the Web Visum plug-in, which performed OCR on the captcha
 image
and placed it on the clipboard for convenient pasting into the
 appropriate
edit box. Also, if you didn't wish to use Firefox, there was usually an
audio alternative. I am trying to create an iChat account on the Mac.
Naturally, this requires the use of the AOL web site. Before I can
 proceed
to create my account, the web site requires that a captcha be entered.
Although they provide an audio alternative, Safari is completely unable
 to
use it and the link (upon checking) is java scripted. I know that Firefox
 is
not at all accessible on the Mac side (at least from the information I
received on this list), so are there any alternatives for captchas? Also
web-related, how do I go about obtaining Webkit-as some seem to think this
 a
better web browsing solution in general? Your contributions, time, and
 patience are appreciated.

Re: Parallels Desktop and accessibility with VO

2010-10-13 Thread Scott Granados
DO not use parallels, it pretty much sucks the big one in terms of performance
and fusion is much more accessible.

Also, audio is not a problem under fusion. I'm not sure what you heard but I
run tons of apps under fusion at the same time as apps on the Mac and no
problems. Streaming, the TTS for jfw, music, no problems at all.

Next, installing windows is pretty easy. Just follow the prompts in
fusion and you'll be good to go enough to start the internal tts with windows
which will get you going enough to install JFW or Window-eyes (insert your
screen reader of choice).

Enjoy

Yeah I've finally got some better action from vm fusion.

Major issues till turning off the mac short cut keys and making sure that
function keys were set to work as function keys.

Apart from those simple thigns, it's just a lack of ram that seems to be

The main problem with Jaws on Parallels is that the Jaws video intercept
interferes with the Parallels video driver. Interferes as in the Windows
XP installation will crash before fully booting up. Just to be sure I
pulled up a copy of a WindowsXP vm in Parallels 4 and let Jaws 10
install the video intercept driver and after the reboot it just hangs.
Choosing the "use last good restore point" (or whatever the text was)
brought be back to where I was when I started. This was on Parallels

4.0.3846.
