Hi Mark

I don’t, but my husband seems to think it’s time I had a new one as it’s
getting towards Christmas.

All the best

Hello Angie,

Thank you for the update.

If you have Apple Care Plus for your watch, you should definitely either have
it repaired or replaced, before your Apple Care Plus coverage expires.

2019-09-03 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Mark,

I'm guessing it was not the re-pairing that fixed the problem.

This used to happen to me all the time on my series 1 watch after a work-out.
It seemed as though a little bit of moisture--sweat in my case--got inside
where the speaker is, muffling the sound. That happened to me fairly often,
and it would always correct in about fifteen minutes. I'm guessing that a tiny
bit of water got into your speaker when you were cleaning it, and by the time
you re-paired, it had dried out.

Just my theory.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: A Strange Speaker Sound Scenario with Mark's Apple Watch, Series 4, with LTE

2019-09-03 Thread Lois Butterfield
Mine usually sounds muffled for a while after it gets wet. It doesn’t happen as
often with the four as it did with that too, but it does happen sometimes. I am
not sure why it happens sometimes not all the time though. Glad yours is back
working again.

Take care, Lois

RE: A Strange Speaker Sound Scenario with Mark's Apple Watch, Series 4, with LTE

2019-09-02 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Mark,

Had a similar situation with my series 2 watch after swimming in a pool.

But mine lasted 3 days before correcting itself.

I ended up not getting it replaced and sticking with the original.

Weird I know, but hey what do you do.

As for more of a concern,
Why did the apple genius bar not know if the replacement would allow you to use
apple pay a product of their own,

Surely the company providing the payment option should accept their own
payment option.

And why did the genius not know this off the top of their head.

with LTE

Hello All,

As the following makes absolutely no sense to me or any of the Apple Techs with
whom I discussed this matter, I will simply list what happened earlier
today:

1.
With Apple Watch powered off, ran tiny stream of water over device to clean.
At the same time, a visiting friend, with an identical device, did same, using
same water source.

2.
Upon powering up Apple watch, speaker sound was muffled on my device but not on
friend's device. Attempted to clear water from speaker using Water lock
feature, no fewer than 15 times. No success.

3.
Rebooted my device several times but speaker remained muffled.

4.
Went to Apple Store Genius Barr where they heard muffled sound as compared to
friend's device, with regard to VoiceOver. They, like I, checked every
conceivable setting on the device and all was as it should have been.

5.
Because I have Apple Care Plus on my Watch, for faster service, used onboard
Apple Support app to begin replacement process, said process having Apple ship
me a new device, overnight delivery, via FedEx. I began this process while at
the genius Barr, using my beloved iPhone 8 Plus.

6.
In order to begin the replacement process, I had to unpair my watch from my
phone; then, the Apple tech could set up the shipping details and create the
RMA log.

7.
The final step in the process was to authorize Apple to put a hold on my credit
card before they ship the new watch. Then, if I do not return the old watch
after having received the new one, they can charge me for the new watch. I
have 3 days to complete the final step in the replacement process.
I decided to wait until I returned home before providing my payment info as I
was not certain if they would accept Apple Pay or if I would have to enter my
card info, directly. The people at the Genious Barr could not give me a
definitive answer so I decided to wait until I was in a more secure and quiet
location before proceeding.

8.
On the way home, in the car, I decided to pair my current device back to my
phone so that I could continue to use it, muffled as it was, while I waited for
the new watch to arrive.

9.
During the pairing process, the sound quality switched from muffled to normal.
I heard it happen as I had VoiceOver enabled during the process.
It was weird, to be totally honest. The sound simply returned to normal. I
mean it was flawless. Mind you, the time between when the Apple genius heard
the sound and the time in which it returned to normal could not have
been longer than 15 minutes. After paring the watch, I ran it through a
battery of sound tests, comparing it with my friend's watch, and they were
virtually identical.

10.
Back at home, I ran both my watch and my friend's watch under some water, just
as I had done, earlier. This time, however, the sound on both watches was
perfect.

11.
Conducted more sound comparison tests and was satisfied that my watch is in
good working order.

12.
Called Apple Care to update them on the status of my watch and the
representative documented the episode, thoroughly and we both agreed to leave
the current RMA in place and allow it to expire on Thursday. This means that
should I authorize Apple to place a hold on my card, then a new replacement
watch will be overnighted to me; otherwise this particular RMA will expire. By
the way, the process does accept payment via Apple Pay.

Finally, as I stated at the outset, I have absolutely no idea why un-pairing
and then, subsequently, re-pairing the watch to the phone should have made any
difference in sound quality whatsoever, but, today, for whatever reason, it did.

Mark
