I've been using modrana on the the N900 for close to 18 months now with little
problem. The developer (MartinK) is still quite active on TMO and is happy to
help with problems and fixes if something turns out to be broken. I'd suggest
you check out his thread there.
I've been butt-dialed and butt-texted, and now it appears we've all been
butt-emailed.
Just a matter of time before someone posts a butt-facebook, butt-flickr or
butt-youtube. :)
I'd rather have that vs an e-mail about making one's device larger, or an
offer from a bank manger on the
I've had fmms working for quite some time, pretty much since it's creation over
a year ago. (Off an on... there were a few broken versions where it stopped
working, then started again. :)
It's rather simple to setup if you follow the wiki age (linked on the first
page of the forum announce
Note: you need to run that as user, not root.
Alternatively, you can use the TrackerCfg app from the Extras-devel repository
to make changes like this, and configure other options around tracker.

I found quite the opposite. My battery life went from ~16 hours to ~26 hours
when 3.2010.02 hit. It was the one noticeable change on the device from the
update. :) And yes, I have a very similar setup. It's on wifi at home and
work, and on 2.5G when not on Wifi. I have the IM plugin
There are step by step instructions and a wiki with settings for almost every
GMS provider on the planet. Please try searching the talk area for help and
reading the threads first. Almost every question about fmms has been asked and
answered about 30 times already in this one thread:

Wow... totally missed that. I haven't hacked around with it to that level, and
missed it in the df listing some how. :P Yes, that does present challenges,

Yes, wonderful. Is a default N900 using a compressed filesystem? NO. Why are
we talking about it? Moot point.
And the issue with that is that package doesn't know into which

If I'm reading some of the replies here correctly, it looks like they have done
some of this in PR1.1.1, so this may be the last time

I don't think anyone is going to care if it's off by 5 to 10%, since that's
already the case. The existing estimates are

Is there an automated way of resetting this? I'd love to set it up to
auto-clear on my billing cycle. Put a dbus command line call into a crontab
somewhere? For most non-prepay people the usage counts are only important
per-cycle.
Maybe someone

I'm far from a Nokia fan-boy, this being my second Nokia device owned ever.

Let me preface this by saying that personally, I hope you continue to tinker
with your device, in fact I encourage it _if you have the time_. It's fun to
do, and does help the community if you're feeding back ideas and bugs. But if
you decide to tinker with it, PLEASE don't come here and

If you hit the default OVI maps area the app to store maps on the N900 is
there. I've used it to throw the maps on my system, and it works just fine.
There are two cavets though:
1 The maps are stored on the internal flash, not the memory card.
2 You must connect your device via USB in Media
This is a bug in OVI maps. I think the link has already been given.
The problem is that OVI opens the device to get a lock, but then gives up and
closes it just before it can get a lock. It cycles doing this every few
minutes, but unless you have an alternate signal, it's not enough time for
I had no issues, but I know I had a similar issue with the first devel item I

The error is due to the fact that the N900 doesn't have a divided menu area
like the 700 and 800 series did. Their application menu was divided up into
functional sub-menus, similar to what Catorise does for the N900. The app it's
trying to run would place the desktop icon in the proper
Just one thought on this:
Most people are going to do playback on the device. I would focus on the best
codec available for recording and playback on the N900. If people want to use
it some other place, maybe making an export function (for Wav or MP3 or
whatever) would suffice. Worst case,
I know the legality of recording calls varies greatly in many countries. In
the US where I live it varies from state to state not only if you may record
calls, but if those recordings may be published or used for legal purposes in a
court of law. In general in the US you need to be a known
