N800 Web browser quit working

IRC for OS2008

The telepathy and rtcomm upgrades I installed the other day included support for IRC, but all I get when I configure for irc.freenode.net is a network error. Is there some nonobvious trick to setting up IRC? I found Xchat for Maemo, but it's for an older version and won't install.

I was surprised that the reviewer had troubles getting online through Bluetooth and a mobile phone, as that's one of the coolest and easiest things about the N800. By contrast, getting either Windows or OS X to connect via GPRS can be hellishly difficult.
