MailMate has been one of my best software experiences in more than a
decade of using a Mac (Devonthink and Ulysses are also up there. The
only connection I can see is that they are all based in Europe).
If I want to do something, I find that MailMate usually already does it.

A couple of days ago I tried to send some very large photos via my
phone's hotspot connection. The email failed to send, and ever since
Mailmate has periodically popped up this message:
MailMate encountered the following error: “Server response: “I5 BAD
[ALERT] Message too large.
That did it - although I couldn't find the rogue message in All
Messages. I found it in GmailBin, the mailbox that was giving me
trouble.

I plan to add that too and I did start creating it. If I remember
Benny - email files imported to Devonthink appear as *.eml files on
disk. If you plan to add DevonThink linkages, I don't need any more

In Apple Mail, I found it useful to flag anything that came via a
mailing list with a yellow flag.
In MailMate, pulling out emails from mailing lists is infinitely easier
than in Apple Mail, but I can't figure out how to apply a yellow flag to
everything that lands in the smart folder. Using
