range? I need to
digitize information primarily from navigational charts and maybe scanned
documents. I primarily work with MapInfo, however, I also can work form
ArcView too. Also does anyone know of a good source to purchase back-lit
drafting tables?

you're in a coastal area and need detailed shoreline/bathymetric
information from nautical charts (which in our experience are quite
accurate cartographically).

it's been done. Multiple ships does seem more complicated, and would
probably preclude GeoTracker as it's designed for one GPS input into one
serial port.
