You can read a mapfile in PHP suck it's contents into a string (outside
mapscript) and store
that in your cache once. Then you can pull that string from the cache
when needed an
instantiate a mapObj from it. About the best you can do at the moment I

You're using OpenLayers? If so then that's a question for that mailing list I

Hi Nikolai: I'm using the exact same output format and it works fine
for me (PALETTE_FORCE, 5.4.1). With that format my output images are
1/4 the size of their RGB counterparts. Have you tried a version without
any of the experimental PNG options enabled?

Hi Worth: When you define a vector symbol you're essentially defining a default
size as well (I believe) relative to 0,0. The SIZE you set is then used to
scale the
symbol based on that default size. If things are anchored to 0,0 then it
generally
works ok. I always try to work on the unit square
I believe the include closing problems have long since been resolve. I'm using
22 layer includes in one app with no worries via the CGI. You can always keep
a master mapfile that uses includes and then write a simple script to open that
mapfile and save a production version with all the includes ex
Depends on how you need to access it. You certainly can create a template that
will output GeoJSON. However,
at the moment you can only access that output though calls to the CGI and
(probably) MapScript. WMS and WFS
do not recognize the template output format although there are plans to do so

Does the query work outside WMS, that is, with straight calls to the
MapServer CGI? One thing to check right away is that the layer
is queryable by making sure a value for the layer TEMPLATE is set,
anything (e.g. TEMPLATE 'dummy') will suffice.

Hi everyon
Hi Rodriguez: I did a couple of quick tests and it seems like the directive is
working as intended, at least with some government unit boundary data. Any
chance you could put together a small test case? Perhaps converting some
data to shapefile and whipping up a simple mapfile that shows the proble

functionality in 5.0, then exposed a bit more in 5.2 and probably got a lot
closer to "right" in 5.4.
You're safest with 5.4.1 if you can afford to upgrade. What version exactly are
you using?
Steve
As an update on single-pass queries, I'm working on implementation now in
trunk. We've
done a proof-of-concept in a sandbox and saw orders of magnitude improvements
in both
Oracle and PostGIS. Shapefiles were about the same. These enhancements are

MapServer 5.4 does open up this possibility. It's not done via substitution but
rather by passing
a bit of mapfile syntax. For example,
...&map.layer[foo]=LABELITEM+newitem&...
However, you must set a validation pattern for MapServer to compare the new
value against before
it will change it.
