I uninstalled the apache service, rename ms4w to ms4w_old
and unzipped an older version of ms4w (2.2.6)
Everything is working well now. Unfortunatly I think I'll never know what
was the problem.

That's not good that you had to go to an older version. Can you
duplicate this problem on a fresh machine, such as your home machine?

Sounds like a DNS config problem on your server... can you double-check
your network settings?
There is no proxy, no firewall the DNS seems ok since I can ping and get
to http://atlas.gc.ca
Did you try opening the URL using I.E. directly on the server that
produces the error?

Perhaps running a http sniffer (such as HTTPLook) would help track down the
problem?
Or maybe not. The fact that the URL works interactively using shp2img or a browser but not from a service implies that the problem might be related to the permissions of the account

full access to everyone...same result.

another computer. They both have the same ms4w version (2.3.0)

That's baffling. Two computers with the same version of Mapserver and the
same mapfile allow different data types returned (I have no clue about the
pragma:no-cache)? Maybe an Apache config thing? Are the conf files the same?

I replace the old apache and mapserver (the one who work) by the current
version of ms4w.
Both servers now have apache 2.2.9 and mapserver 5.2.0. And both servers
are not behind a proxy.
The behavior with a wms is still the same though. I get a blank image on
one of the server.

If not then perhaps try looking at the debug output... i.e. set 'DEBUG
5' in your WMS client layer definition and set 'CONFIG MS_ERRORFILE
C:\ms4w\mapserver.log' at the top-level in your mapfile, and then look

setEnv PROJ_LIB was in httpd.conf of apache but was not in my OS
environment variable. After defining PROJ_LIB on the OS ishp2img is

I defined a mapFile containing several layers and one WMS layer.
The same copy of this mapFile is used on both server. On one server all
layers are shown on the static map. On the other server all layers show up
except the WMS layer.

The difference is the version, and these:
