It should have been entitled: The Gay Architects of Classic Rock in the UK. In the US "classic rock" refers, if anything, to the rock'n'roll which became popular in the early 1950s---composed and performed by black and white artists. And the linchpin of a lot of it, Sam Phillips, was not gay AFAIK. And even though homosexual relations were illegal in the UK it was in the US that homophobia more deeply gripped (still grips?) the public mind. That would be an interesting topic to research as it relates to the "classic rock" in america. Alan Freed gay? He banned me and a fellow Palestinian activist after we started asking whether "antifa" was anti-Zionist or not, as we thought it ought to be. Even some Israeli citizens publicly call Israel "fascist". We began to wonder where he was coming from ideologically and he lapsed into a long tirade about the meanings of Zion. Thinking he may be a closet Zionist we kept probing but all of a sudden he banned us from his FB page. As of 4:15 PM PST today I remain "banned". You may notice that a lot of his critique is of The Left. I conjecture that, because it is FROM THE LEFT that the most legitimate criticism of Israel comes (Israel as a settler colonialist state), it is not so easy to discredit by labeling it as anti-semitic which is how many Zionists try to handle criticism. Correct me if I'm wrong. First of all, just how does it define happiness? It seems to talk instead of satisfaction which is a notoriously difficult thing to measure, with the major ambiguity being whether the respondents are reporting happiness and satisfaction or, instead, essentially admitting to a resignation to their conditions. This applies as much to measures of job satisfaction as it does to measures of marital happiness, which is even harder to be honest about. However, good methodologies can dig into these discrepancies and begin to sort them out. Conceptually the study seems to define Happiness as some sort of approximation to the good life as defined by market materialism, i.e., meeting existing standards of being a good consumer. But, is that what truly brings happiness or satisfaction with life? In other words trying to approximate a standard which emanates from the advertising industry and not from one's own deeper experiences and expectations. Once PR has colonized our imaginations, it's hard to imagine anything else. Hence these kinds of studies are not a big help. And, of course, the countries in the war-torn Middle East are more pessimistic and dissatisfied than elsewhere because of the consequences of our oil being under their sand. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
