This changed in Boston is approx 1972 - BPD sent out an order that no
further transports would be done in police vehicles - and that order
followed implementation of a new state law regarding EMS

Philadelphia Police claim they do better than ambulances

sure would be nice if there could be a rational decision concerning this matter

Boston and San Francisco have approx the same populations - IIRC
Boston has 10 medics on duty - San Francisco has 100 medics on duty -

started around 2006

Taunton Hospital said that all mental health evaluations are done by
contractors hired by Mass Health (health insurance plan for the poor)
- they have been fighting this rule for years saying it is misguided

For VHF fire operations, there are generally 3 types of radio channels.

Dispatch channels - station alerting - pager activations - dispatch
messages - response communications - usually a repeaterized channel -
a minimum of 1 dispatch channel per county for local and county
stations - typically 1 dispatch channel per National Forest and
federal entity

Command channels - usually a repetearized channel - often is a
regionally or statewide shared channel - used for onscene comms to
dispatcher and amongst onscene units - feds dont have a heck of alot
of preinstalled command channels (they commonly bring in temporary
command repeaters on large fires or they have 1 command channel per
forest if they are lucky)

Tac channels - usually are non repeaterized channels - usually only
mobiles and portables on the channels - usually no base stations on
the channels - usually not recorded by dispatch office - usually
emergency alarms (if any) will only be received by nearby units at the
scene - commonly are shared channels amongst local FDs or county
stations or state units or federal units - all levels have tac
channels (local, county, state, and federal)

CalFire radio communications in southern California

San Diego County - CalFire and some local fire units are dispatched by
CalFire on a CalFire channel

San Bernardino County - CalFire and ??? are dispatched by CalFire on 2
or 3 CalFire radio channels

Riverside County - all calFire and county stations and many local
stations are dispatched by calFire on calfire and local radio channels

Tulare County - just CalFire and Tulare Indian fire units are
dispatched on the CalFire chanel by CalFire/federal comm center

Kern, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and ? counties are
"CalFire contract" counties - CalFire has no stations in these
counties

Anyhow - IIRC - the basic idea of the computer is - you add two sine
waves together - (from 2 oscillating circuits) - the combination
produces a wave that is twice as strong as the 2 original sine waves -
you use this stronger wave to "trip" the transistor - you have just
built a solid state counting device

Armstrong Ambulance seems to be operating in conventional mode on
463.40 R today - no more trunking. Frequent radio checks are being
done. The dispatcher is loud and clear on a FX1 / control station on
468.40.

Several units were asked if the signal was better today than in
previous days. One unit was specifically asked about reception in the
Concord area.

Units were heard being assigned to calls in Andover.

One unit was heard being told to switch back to Channel 3. I think
that was a chair car IIRC.

This was all happening around 7 AM.
