Thank you so much, everyone! I discovered a love of data during the PhD
program I completed last year - I feel like it's late to discover the
analytical side of my brain mid-career. As such, I'm definitely a novice,
but recognized immediately that many museums are just terrible about data
as a general concept so I try to put on the data hat every time I sign on
with a new project to understand how we can work toward letting data help
us be more efficient in cataloging. Thank you, Getty (and David, in
particular) for creating this tool. I'll let you know how it goes with this
project! I think i might be a representative of the target market for
OpenRefine (someone who kind of knows what they're doing - or at least
knows what should be possible, but nothing about the architecture required
to make it work), so I'll make careful notes about my experience with the
tutorial.

I'd like to second Sami's recommendation.  The need to take an existing 
spreadsheet of information and look up which Getty Vocabulary term matches is 
very common, and what we've found is that OpenRefine is the best tool for doing 
that, which is why we've worked to provide integration points for the Getty 
Vocabularies there.

The URL for the service is http://services.getty.edu/vocab/reconcile, which is 
the URL you would link to within OpenRefine to add the integration point.  For 
a more useful tutorial on how to use it, 
https://www.getty.edu/research/tools/vocabularies/obtain/openrefine_tutorial.pdf
 contains step-by-step instructions.

Please let me know if those instructions don't make sense--we're still trying
