[MCN-L] IP SIG: Belgian Court Rules Against Google in Newspaper Case

Belgian Court Rules Against Google in Newspaper Case [from GigaLaw.com]

Google Inc. lost a copyright lawsuit to Belgian newspapers that had demanded it
remove headlines and links to articles posted on its news site without their
permission. The ruling, if it stands on appeal, could set a precedent for how
Web search engines link to copyrighted material in the tumultuous arena of
online news, according to the Belgian copyright group that launched the case.

U.S.-based technology lawyer [and MCN 2006 speaker] Jonathan Band said the
ruling was neither final - as it can be appealed to higher courts in Belgium -
nor did it bear much weight since legal precedent is not as important in
Continental European law.

Re: [MCN-L] Metrics Evaluation SIG

Hello Sheila, metrics and evaluation very often concentrate on outputs,
that is to say: how many visitors came, what did they do, how much did
they like it? What did they get from it? And so on. I'm interested in
predictive measures that enable formative evaluations to be made of how
effective a particular museum experience might be before it is actually
launched. In other words, input metrics. I'm especially interested in
how these ideas apply to Museum website design and learning activities,
particularly when it comes to open ended exploratory kinds of
activities. Is anyone else interested in these topics?

Hi everyone,

I'm pulling together ideas for a Metrics Evaluation SIG session for
the
MCN conference. I'd welcome any suggestions on topics and/or speakers.

Thanks.

[MCN-L] Evaluations and Metrics

2007-02-15 Thread Lisa Mort-Putland
The museum and heritage sector has traditionally used quantitative
measures to describe past trends as opposed to establishing performance
indicators to track and explore current and emerging qualitative and
quantitative measures that can also be used to predict and articulate
goals, successes, and future shifts in practice. The University of
Victoria offers a Performance Measures course that explores a number of
these important performance issues and looks to current performance
indicator tools from the business and not-for-profit sector. For more
information on this great learning opportunity please visit
