pull the radiator, and if it has A/c, pull the condenser, or move it
out of the way. Pull the front pulley/balancer. Pull the old seal
put in a new seal carefully (easier said than done). You can loosen
some of the pan bolts if you need to.

With one exception, the ultimate test is using a current meter.
They should draw about 20 amps initially.
Seeing it glow to me is not definitive.

I'll second the 30-0-30 ammeter. If the current use doesn't drop to around
10-15 after a few seconds, it's a bad plug. That's all I use.

Is there gold plating under the paint? Somehow, $36K seems a bit much for a car

Yes, they came with 6" wheels. Yours probably had hubcaps originally and a
previous owner bought some used wheels. The 6.5 will work just fine, they
just didn't come with them.
