267785, so I have the melted fuse box at fuse # 16 location with a brand

Every MB fuse box seems like you describe! All kinds of wires crammed
behind the panel with no room to change anything.
When I worked on my W123 fuse box I had to release the screws holding it to
the body and try to find slack somewhere under the box. It's been a while
since I did that.
