Aren't the pilots on the T/C's different diameters?

Sounds like an exciting time! I REALLY need to get the suspension
figured out on my '95. I'm fairly certain I've got front end issues as
well as rear.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a source for a dial indicator
accurate to 0.01mm? I'd like to start setting the wheel bearing play
myself
Could also be bad wiring. A code is really just a starting place, a
shotgun approach may yield resolution, but be prepared for the next step
if new parts don't help.

Thanks for the many replies on the torque converter size, I'm not sure
about the pilot. If both trannys were next to each other, it'd be easier
to check, though the donor car is a days drive from here, so I'm
checking feasibility, sight unseen.
Thanks again.

About any dial indicator you buy will have a repeatable accuracy of .01mm.
That's only .0004. A conventional .001 indicator is probably repeatable to
.0001 or better.
If you buy a .0001 indicator, it will be so sensitive as to make it hard to
use. I have several of each and if I were to want

It's an entire donor car?

For the past couple of days I have been hearing/feeling a slight rumbling from
the front end when braking... just before the car stops, not at higher speeds.
This morning I grabbed the top of each front wheel and pushed/pulled --- the
drivers side has perceptible movement. So can I get away
Peter, thanks for that advice. My neighbor has a very old .001
indicator which I can borrow, but I'd rather have my own. I guess I'll
spring for the .001 and go from there.
Can I get a decent one at Sears or online somewhere?

Only concern is that it should move smoothly, and not stick. My Sarrett 'Last

Last I knew, HF had indicators and mag bases for about $10 each.
The indicators I bought 15 years ago are repeatable to .0001 or so.
The micro-adjust base isn't as solid as I might wish for, I'd get the one
without the fine adjustments if
I agree, they are probably not as rugged as name brands.
Home mechanic is not as likely to drop and abuse them.

Inspect the bearing. It's very unlikely you have gotten that play
from anything other that bearing wear, probably due to a failed
