My '78 240D has a push button and I don't particularly like it...

older engines. Zinc content is the main issue. Its disappearing from
modern oils and damaging engines they require it in the process. Using the
latest MB spec in your old car is a recipe for a long, slow disaster.

A bad power supply can do all of the things you have happening -- all
it takes is a drop in voltage to the CPU to kill it, and the PS can
drop off line, too. Had the same problem myself occasionally with my
brother's computer.
You should also check the temperature of the CPU in the BIOS
I think a good oil article would be a great idea for an article in The Star,
