Kent Bergsma did a recent video on getting the water pump bolts out without breaking or stripping them. Might be worth a watch. The keys were patience and penetrating fluid. Seems the ends of the bolts penetrate into the coolant and are prone to corrosion. > -Original Message- >

Prestone, Valvoline and Castrol all sell DOT 4 and should be available at virtually every FLAPS. I can get Prestone and Valvoline at the supermarket too. Unfortunately the Valvoline changed from Syntec to Synthetic DOT 3 & 4 several years ago and the boiling point went down from nearly 5.1

Sometimes its difficult to find DOT 4. My local Autozone didn't carry it for a long time. I'm not sure what finally got them to have it. Strangely they'd have DOT 5 but not DOT 4. My local Federated Autoparts had DOT 4 in one of the Euro brands I can't think of at this moment... -Curt On

Thanks, good advice. I’m gonna order a set of hoses then do a flush. --R Sent from iPhone > On Aug 18, 2018, at 1:55 PM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes > wrote: > > DOT 3 has a lower boiling point and it intended for use with drum brakes, if > I remember correctly. Use DOT4, it's for disk

DOT 3 has a lower boiling point and it intended for use with drum brakes, if I remember correctly. Use DOT4, it's for disk brakes. As I remember there isn't enough price difference (if any) to matter. Reminds me I need to bleed the brakes on the 300D, I want to get it back on the road.

Also. since MB specified DOT4 - - - why even consider anything else? I'd look at all the hoses - if they all look the same age, I'd replace them all, then just flush the brake fluid once. The brake system is too critical to risk old hoses. On Fri, Aug 17, 2018 at 11:07 PM Craig via Mercedes
