Yes, they were originally powered by 2 4-71 Detroit Diesels, but they were later repowered with a Screamin' Jimmy 8V-71. Those weren't known for sipping fuel, but they sure have a nice sound! The big, modern Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines sure do make crazy power and run quietly. Kevin

Mercedes. Also, the seats, both upholstery and design, were higher quality. The 2.7L 5 cylinder Diesel was louder, vibrated a bit more and had more exhaust odor than the V6 Diesel. I did grow to like the sound and smell of it, kind of harkened back to the old SD. Kevin in Hillsboro, Oregon
