Some people think that the only place for a Diesel engine is in a truck or
tractor. When I told a friend of mine about my diesel Benz addiction, that
was exactly his reaction. How funny that our Kubota B7100 and L2500
tractors would have probably outrun the 240D to 20MPH!

On this 240D with the two afore mentioned bolts loose, the alt will move
1/4 or a little more back and forth. I can't move it by hand to get any
tightness on the belt.

The '07 Dodge pickups with the Cummins 6.7L engines were some of the first
to be equipped with Diesel particulate filters (DPF's). They have very
little odor. The 240D is another story :d!

far behind. It’s straight with a decent interior other than the warn driver’s

Where is it located? BTW, it doesn't have a hole in the roof, Wilton! It
has crank windows, but also has AC. I would say it's at least a 1980 due to
the vacuum tranny modulation.

Wow, that's a pretty good maintenance record for a 15 y/o minivan! Our '05
is going to need a set of tires as well since they are showing a bit of
sidewall cracking. The tread would probably make it another year, but it's
not worth having a sidewall failure at speed, that's for sure!

of them in the 1980's, 2 '79 Diesel sedans and a '76 Diesel Station Wagon.
If they weren't so hard to get parts for here in the states, I would get one
since they are often in the sub Kilobuck bracket.

Yes, they were originally powered by 2 4-71 Detroit Diesels, but they were
later repowered with a Screamin' Jimmy 8V-71. Those weren't known for
sipping fuel, but they sure have a nice sound! The big, modern Detroit
Diesel Series 60 engines sure do make crazy power and run quietly.

I'm thinking of purchasing the 1982 300D in the ad linked to my previous
post. Any feedback? It seems like the perfect car to tuck next to the
house and work on for a while. For not much above scrap price for a

One of my uncles in Indiana built a rear engine 1971 Datsun Pickup with a
455/toronado setup with shortened axles. It was one heck of a screamer that
would lift the front end while smoking the rear tires! I don't know what
happened to that thing.

Since hearing is all I've got, electrics and hybrids are a problem. The
guide dogs did well with the Prius used in training. It was sure quiet, and
even when I didn't hear it, the dog provided plenty of buffer zone for our
safety.

Also, the seats, both upholstery and design, were higher quality. The 2.7L
5 cylinder Diesel was louder, vibrated a bit more and had more exhaust odor
than the V6 Diesel. I did grow to like the sound and smell of it, kind of

It was called the Chicken Tax. any light truck that was imported into the
USA was subject to it. It was circumvented by having them shipped without
beds and have them installed once they arrive.

The first thought that came to mind when I heard about the Progressive
Snapshot device was It sure wouldn't be hard for them to use this data
against us. At the time, my Mom said But it's your choice whether or not
to put it in your car. This is true right now, but for how long?

Interesting comment about bagless-one of the biggest complaints is over
having to empty the dust collector
The dust that you've just vacuumed up comes pouring back out when you empty
the thing. That's the only complaint that I have about our Dyson.

towing the PT Cruiser. It has no problem keeping up with traffic. These
days, it just sits, as our travel trailer does, in the driveway.
Hopefully, it will have a new owner soon. If only I could drive!

I'm throwing out my Dad's junk stands. Ironically, he gave me his good old
Craftsman pedistal stands with the pin that fits into the holes for proper
height adjustment. We've used these ratcheting stands for years, but they
won't be used anymore.
