Victory! I tackled the other dome light, just to find that it was
glued in place: one of the platic ears was broken off. It wasn't fun
getting it loose without tearing up the molding. The insulation
wrapper on the hot lead was half missing, and I think it was pinching
through the foam
But it's on Fuse 12. If the schematic can be believed

You didn't mention in your text if you had removed the trunk light bulb.

Yes, early. It draws about 1A itself. (Though I usually left the
trunk lid closed before I pulled the bulb.)

More leak chasing. The schematic shows eight wires on Fuse 12, and
there are two ring terminals of four wires each, which bodes well for
the schematic being correct. I put a test light in series with the
fuse power supply so that slips wouldn't cause big problems, and the
offensive current was
Oh ah, perhaps the door switches?

Seems like somebody traced a 126 current leak to a dome or foot lamp in the
back
seat area. Flick the manual override switch to 'automatic' from 'always on' and
the leak goes away. Took him quite some time to find the problem too.
I'd take a good look around the SL in the dark some time.
Mitch.

Removed, early.

There just aren't that many light bulbs in an SL! Most
of them have been removed anyway, we're down to the wire
(so to speak). I _will_ get it. (Never give up, never

Yesterday I finally got a chance to tackle the battery discharge
problem in Jill's 560 SL. I'd already convinced myself it wasn't an
alternator charging prohblem. (I've been putting the car on charge
most nights for months now.) I suspected one of the two alarms, or
the stereo to be at fault.
When you are done, would you figure out why my dash light/right
tail/right front marker light fuse keeps blowing? :)
Luther, thinking finding wiring problems is like looking for a needle in
a hay stack
