An interesting piece of trivia - Chrysler licensed the counter rotating
shaft technology from Porsche for their 2.5 liter engine. The Chrysler 2.2
liter engine did not have counter rotating shafts.
Interesting, I had assumed that came from their partnership with

Nope, the technology came from Porsche. Chrysler tried to develop their own
counter rotating shaft technology and could not without getting so close to
the original design to cause a patent infringement.
What was different about the balance shaft setup in the Mitsu 2.6L

The counter rotating shafts were used in the 2.5 liter Chrysler engines and
likely in the 2.6 liter Mitsu engines. I remember a 2.6 liter Mistu engine
but don't know much about it.
I was just surprised at the idea that anybody could license the balance shafts
from Porsche
The 944 was (is) an awesome sports car - but it didn't look like a Porsche
which to many people means a 911. If the 944 has been maintained properly
it's a great investment - and it has a great A/C which the 911 struggled
with until the 90s. I've often considered one so I'd have a Porsche

Unfortunately what?

Good idea too is to join a list if you know the model you'll looking for.
Like any car, they all have their own things to watch for. One the whole,
great cars, and even better at what they are currently going for. As Larry
said, check service records, especially as the cars are so reasonable
