Verify that your mac detects a standard computer monitor (Dell or
something else common). If it does, the problem is the monitor. If it
doesn't the problem is the mac.

I don't have those options - only different screen resolutions.
You do. it is in the display preferences, but only if the external
display is detected. This sony tv may not be compatible. Sony
thumbed their nose at international standards long before Microsoft
did, or was even around. Lik
Sounds like it's not detecting the external display then, might need
service. Is it under warranty?
You have to rescan for new monitors. Same dialog box.

Forgot to add, if you haven't already tried another monitor (at work, at
a friends house, etc) do that to rule out a problem with your monitor or
its cable.

Huh. Thought it was the same on all Macs since 1987: open Display
control panel and arrange the displays to do what you want. Mirror,
composite desktop, etc.

Does it show up in the "displays" preferences?
First time I hooked up a projector, I was not sure if the problem was
the projector, the cabling, or the computer. I had to turn on
mirroring in the preferences, and i had to get the projector to run a
scan to determine the connection type. Then
Why don't you try a different TV or some other external display?

Normally it detects the connection of the displa
Your Aquos might talk to the mac and do the handshake once you tell the
mac to use an external display. Some monitors do that. I have no idea
what all the F keys will do in various combinations, there is no manual
for that stuff. I guess Apple just expects a user to know that stuff.

I recall going into the [apple] systems preferences settings for
displays, then you can turn that on and set the resolution and such if
it does not automatically do that. Before my macbook got stolen I used
it on a Samsung 32", it was sorta crappy looking for some reason, but it
worked. You h
