Thanks. I can't remember if the greenie weenie matches I had were
Diamond or some other. I suppose I should try small town stores in N
MS, AR or AL where they burn wood for heat. I was hoping to find some
place with a national presence that would stock real matches. The Ace
Hardware
IN the local ACE Hardware here in Hawthorne
they sell the small diamond strike anywhere
matches. The heads are green and white but
they work just fine on either the box or
anywhere else you want to strike them.
Something like $1.50 for a pack of 10 boxes
with 32 matches each. You said you

Depending on how they were stored, you might want to seal them up with some
desiccant, or find a way to pull a hard vacuum on them for a day or two.

Not a Dollar General I suppose. You'd think a chain that originated in
the hills and hollers of East TN would sell real matches. But they
went big time, and don't carry real matches, at least in the DG stores I
have been in.
I've looked all over the Mississippi valley and not found any.
Tried grocery stores of all stripes, hardware stores, dollar stores,
small, local chain box stores, sporting goods, big box, etc. All we can
find are the crappy small "safety" matches. Maybe I should try looking
in AL. I don't get to GA. Tried Rouse, a LA grocery store.

I've had good luck with full size strike anywhere large boxes at my local
dollar store.
Price is right, they work well.

Curley,
Do you have any small lesser name grocery stores in your area? Not a
Kroger, Publix, or other big name. I have a Quality Foods here (you might have
a Food Lion, Piggley Wiggley, etc.). These stores still carry "country items"
like matches, canning jars, etc. This is where I
If you're desperate, the big river has a 300ct box of Diamond Strike Anywhere,
worth around $3, for $7 shipped.

I've heard of tobacco shops selling real wooden matches with strike anywhere
tips on them,
but that was 20 years ago so I don't know if it's still the case.
Got a cigar and pipe store near you?
Mitch.

strike anywhere matches have disappeared in this part of the country.
We used to get Ohio Blue Tip, but I'd guess the greenie weenies put that
out of business.
