Hopefully you get a seal that has not aged on the shelve for the last 20
years.
I got a hood pad that fell apart within a month.

My guess would be that the old seal will be fine unless it appears deformed.
My car has the same issue. The trunk seal is there but is not glued in
at all. I am guessing the previous owner got a new seal when the car was
painted but never got to installing it properly. I have not yet glued it
Don't cheap out. Get a new one. The glue isn't there to keep the
water out, though it will if you use glue on the top and bottom
of the old seal and glue the trunk shut. :-)
It's kind of like a garden hose which has a rubber washer to seal
the connection against leaks. IF the connection isn't
before applying a coat of the flowable silicon sealant,
Use weatherstrip cement.

checked trunk seal, appeared good, however it was easily removed, and
pulled out of groove without any difficulty, so it would seem that it is
not sealed good enough for water. Wondering if I have to remove old glue
on the rubber before applying a coat of the flowable silicon sealant, and
if so, h
thanks, will have the seal checked carefully. The water seems to come in
at the top of the trunk, right across the whole trunk. Possibly even from
the ledge under the window, but it could be running from the trunk lid
across to this ledge. Will check it out.

Check your trunk seal. Clean it well, make sure it is not cracked or
broken where it attaches to the lip.
