You'd have to pull _all three_ shafts to stop it from turning.

They so rarely go bad, good used is the only reasonable path to take.

Looking back I am real lucky I got as far as I did. It started making noise
right when I left the town I was in and I drove it about 45minutes to 1 hr
before stopping, and it was physically smoking when it stopped and continued
smoking for a while. Between the town I left and the town o stopped
When that happened to me, I drove it to my Indy, about twenty miles, after it
cooled off (after I had it towed home). I broke the drive into two parts,
stopping to let it cool before going over the Ravenel bridge. A seized rear
axle on that bridge would be seriously no fun.

When I looked under it I did not seen massive leaking oil but the diff appears
to have been leaking. Maybe it was dry and just somehow managed to stay
together. It still drove ok just making lots of strange noise.

Massive fluid loss?
When it cools, can you put some fluid in it and limp home?

There is a flaps across the street, wonder if I could get some gear oil and put
in it and make it home. I have no tools with me so I would have to buy a big
14mm hex there which is what I think it is. It has obviously blown a seal out
or something as if it had been low for a while I would think
Fill it with sawdust and used engine oil?
