Just got off the phone with RockAuto. They wanted pictures and in the meantime
are checking with the warehouse to see if just these were mislabeled or the
whole lot is mislabeled.
Not sure what they're going to offer at this point, but I'm open to
suggestions. Free? Discounted "real"
Free stuff is always good.

Don't bilsteins have a lifetime warranty? I hear you can send them back and
they will rebuild. Never done it .

You want to back that statement up with some substance?
I’m just trying to decide what to do. Tough to do without some backup.

Interesting.
I opened one of the boxes, and they’re clearly Meyle, as the logo is stamped in
the sides of the shock. Looks like a date code of 2008 of some sort. Nothing
about COO, but it does say they’re from Germany on the box.

I think about 25 years ago, when I was a college student living on about $400/
month, my '63 beetle handled very poorly. I consulted with the local parts
house guys, and their VW expert determined I needed new rear shocks. I'm
pretty sure the brand name started with an M, may have been Meyle.
Well it's pretty simple, they falsely advertised that you were buying Bilsteins
that is not what you got. I have never even hear of Meyle shocks so I have no
idea about their quality.

Agreed, and there’s no problem with me returning them for a full refund, so I’m
not worried about it.
I’ve found a number of references to Meyle shocks on BMW forums, and they’re
not bad. It’s funny, as they often talk about how crappy Meyle’s suspension
parts like LCAs and other stuff are,
IDK the answer, but I'm curious if they show country of manufacture. That
information would give some idea. I've purchased front end parts from them
labeled "Duralast" (Autozone house brand) on the box, but manufactured by Moog.
Good stuff very cheap.
