A friend of mine had a racoon in his attic a couple years ago. He could go up
into the attic and it'd just sit and stare at him. He paid something like $1000
to have it trapped out. I told him I'd blast it with the pellet gun for free.
That was before I had a good pellet gun too. In retrospect
I would say a few weeks ago. The snake might come and go. I am not
sure if he has heard the noise continuous or not since then. As long as
the snake stays up there and gets rid of mice, I suppose all is good.

How long has your kid heard something at night? If this started with the
heavy rain and flooding, then maybe the snake's visit will end when its
home is no longer flooded.
If he is a long-term dweller, then there must be a food source nearby.
Eliminate the food source, he'll go looking for

Snakes don't but their dinner does.

Both rat (black) snakes and corn snakes are common here. Corn snakes are often
confused with copperheads, unfortunately. One way to tell if you’re close
enough is that venomous snakes have slit eyes, like a cat. non-venomous snake’s
pupils are round.
I’m not sure i would be keen having one in
That’s a rat snake. Very good to have around though they can be scary. Can
climb trees too to get tree rats and birds. I saw one today about 4ft long
crossing my driveway as i was headed out to do errands.
Last year I was out in the garage workshop sitting at my bench doing something.
I had a
No, they don't chew - they swallow whole. Yes, tape up that hole so neither
one of you gets scared.

I do have a hole in the sheet rock above the stove in the kitchen where
a hood vent is being installed. Actually my wifes ex father in law was
doing it them died of cancer. I guess I need to finish it up. I
probably need to go cover and tape it shut in case the snake finds its
way in thru
No - let him finish off the mice, then he'll move on. Both you and he will
be happier this way. It is no threat to you ...

What Dan said - we have a few different kinds of black snakes (though none
in the house that we know of) - they are pretty much "rat snakes" - good to
have around. If it doesn't find food in your attic, it will leave of it's
own accord.

As I am sitting here the snake is very active. It sounds like a big
snake but I only caught a glimpse of him. Maybe I should order one of
those long pole claw things used to catch snakes and shove him in a
pillow case or something and relocate him.

We had the same situation years ago. My son went up there to see. It
was a family of racoons. He saw mama racoon eye to eye. The family

either. Maybe he will leave on his own after a while.

They eat rodents and small animals, so if there’s one up there he must have a
food source. Probably likes the warmth of the attic, too.
I would leave him alone. He’s doing good work.
