Yeah … mine actually still have key switches that work or worked
I have fixed a million mowers and motor scooters … I still have a bunch of this
stuff

Usually on small engines there is one wire that handles grounding the coil.
Often it wraps around the outside of the engine and has a connector inline
somewhere. If you can find and unplug it the machine is always on which at
least lets you know that the no-spark issue is outside of the
Yeah, it’s an electric start maybe 8 hp rear end rider … probably late 70s …. I
have the service manual for it or a similar one, so I’ll read up on it
Maybe easier to fix my slightly newer snapper ($150) that just stopped …. I
think it’s some safety switch causing no spark
I just haven’t
This is a Snapper RER? (rear engine rider)
They're actually really simple and, as you say, already have the grease fitting.
I've had to fart around with this on mine quite a bit, a couple years ago the
pulley came loose from it's hub. While I had it off I don't remember if the
spindle fell out

It just looks like a pain to remove

Seized how like seized in the bearing and won't turn?
Generally the spindles are pretty simple arrangements. Most cheap mowers don't
have a way to grease the sealed spindle bearings. It's pretty easy to pull the
housings apart and drill and tap for grease fittings. I did that on the
Crapsman
Yes. All you have to do is pop a little cover off where the seat belt
mounts and move the cover to the other side.

I think the aftermath is over. Summary, post-recovery:
I checked the water pump at home, it was still stiff. Didn't feel
'notchy' like a bad bearing, it's a straight grinding stiffness,
perhaps like the drive flange is contacting the face of the housing.
Regardless, it's defective and needs

You might be right. I've no idea how old it is. Will have to look sometime.
The recovery went flawlessly. We drove

Cruising in traffic knot behind plows at first. As we approached the
exit the dash lights got even dimmer and lots more warnings started
showing up, dimly, on the dash display. I was 'coasting' as far as
I could towards that last

It was closer to 5. Puking engine at the end was pushing it barely

than we would have been able to, on dry pavement. Which it wasn't.

Heat had stopped. We're on our way soon to retrieve the car...
Lots of luck. I have done that drive enough to know just how big of a bullet
you dodged

Not doing that on a brand new battery and no serpentine belt.

11 miles would be easy, assuming you could get the coolant moving.
I know from experience a M112 only goes up 5-10 degrees
That is pretty common and cheap to replace. I always check them before
I do a belt. Probably a good idea to keep on the shelf.

Well, not 1100 miles but still a bigger issue than 11 miles.
Obviously, think long and hard and try to figure out everything you
could need.
Good luck.
When are you doing this? Tomorrow?

The 05E320 wagon munched the tensioner pulley the day after I got it,
late at night. Had to call a friend to come collect me, I was about
100yd from another friend's farm so pulled into a field and left it
there. I should have dealt with it as I heard it screaming on the way
home from Hilton

Pretty common source of failure on these engines/cars and fortunately an
easy/cheap one to fix. Sorry you had a failure while on the road, especially in
inclement weather. That’s never fun, but at least you weren’t stranded out in
the Styx somewhere.
For what it’s worth, this is a maintenance

Have car trailer, and three tow-capable pickups.

That's the problem.
Modern vehicles are a pain in so many ways.

I know you have the big Dodge. Do you have a car hauler trailer?
Can you borrow one? Might be better to go prepared to drag it home on

Good Luck.
