Among the cars you own right now, what have you had the longest? I'm at 6
years for my '95 E320 wagon (although it'll be for sale soon) and over 4
years on my 79 300SD which I have no intentions of selling (except for a

I've also had a '86 300SDL, '81 280E, and '83 380SEL

I bit the bullet and put a factory short block in my 200D 39 years
ago. Never had a worry about the engine. It is still good. I'd
probably have opted for the factory short block again as a second
choice to a junkyard engine or buying a rusty

Re:
Are you saying you found engines on car part and tried to email them and no
response? Most of those salvages do not do a good job with email so you have to
call them. Who cares about mileage at this point on those cars, a compression
test would be much more important and informative

I have definitely found that to be the case.
Many small yards are still in the 1970s as far as technology. They

others, where I actually got responses, there were no responses once I asked

Exactly. With that attitude about it you will never find an engine so you would
have to buy new. Or you will get them to say than one and give you fake resulta

Regarding my search for a used 617.952 engine for my '85 300TD, since there are

I guess I don't understand why you didnt just go find another car somewhere
that you could verify the engine and just pull it and swap, then have lots of
extra parts.

I agree, that would have been my first choice. I also think that I'd rather be
seriously dented by purchasing a short block from MB before I'd role the dice

the number of member complaints.
