Timing chains on OM60x engines typically last 400-800kmi! They commonly
wear at about 1 degree or a little less per 100kmi with average

The blower resistor pack is inside the air intake plenum, under
the grille. The connector on the firewall goes to it. Nothing
there to catch fire except the resistor pack
Overheating will kill any OM603 head. More likely a dead head gasket

Not too bad. Intake comes off, exhaust and turbo stay on. You
cannot rotate the engine with the head off unless you want to re-time
the cam and injection timer (you set it at TDC and leave it alone).
New head bolts. Heads run $1500 to $2500 bare.
